SCRAPER OR CLEANER FOR BOOTS OR SHOES.

Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH AUGUST CAHN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Hanover, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers or Cleaners for Boots or Shoes, (patented in Belgium August 27, 1891, No. 96,l86,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to a boot scraper or cleaner consisting of a number of alternate plates of rubber and met-al; and the object of the same is to remove wet or mud from the soles by passing them across the scraper. I attain these objects bya device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a side View partly in section, and Fig. 2 a cross-section, of the improved cleaner.

The device consists of a number of alternate plates of rubbera (or canvas and rubber) and metal c set edgewise and bolted or otherwise clamped together to form a scraper-block, the scrapingsurface of which consists of the edges of the rubber plates a, which project somewhat above the metal ones c. plates abeside standing above the metal ones c have undercut shoulders a near their ends, which stand up still higher and form side scrapers for the edges of the boot-soles. The

center metal plate c,rwhich is thicker than the others, is provided with a pair of posts The rubber l which fit into sockets in a trough-like baseplate d, which catches the moisture and mud scraped off the boot-soles.

The appliance may be either portable or fixed like an ordinary house-scraper, in which case the trough d may be omitted.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of myinvention and in ywhat manner the same is to be performed, I

declare that what I claim is- 1. The herein-described boot-cleaner, consisting of a plurality of alternate plates of metal and rubber, the latter extending above the former and provided with undercut shoulders, and a trough-like base in which are fitted posts supporting the cleaning portion, substantially as set forth.

2. The herein-described boot-cleaner, consisting of a plurality of alternate plates of metal and rubber set edgewise and clamped together by suitable means, the edges of the vrubber plates projecting above the metal plates and provided near their ends with undercut shoulders, and a central metallic plate provided with posts fitted in trough-like base d, as set forth.
