ENGLEY Gr. KILLERBRUE, OF CICERO, ILLINOIS.
SHOE-CLEANING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 17, 1916.
Application filed February 18, 1916. 3 Serial No. 79,110.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ENGLEY G. KILLER- BRUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cicero, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a shoe cleaning device and has for its object to provide a shoe cleaner having removable brushes or cleaners therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a portable shoe scraper.
With the above and other objects in View which will hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the device illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevational view partly in section, Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line AA, Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line BB, Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line C-C, Fig. 1, Fig. 6 is a similar view with certain parts removed, and Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing a slight modification of the invention.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the following specification and in the'several views in the drawings in which 1 is a concrete base reinforced with a reinforcing 2. The ends 3 and 4 are cut away as at 5 and 6, having central upstanding sides 7 and 8, with their upper inner edges beveled as at 9 and 10. Openings 11 and 12 are provided adjacent the ends 3 and 4 to receive dirt and mud cleaned from the shoes being cleaned. A transverse recess 13 extends across the center of the base to receive the spring support 14 of the horizontal block 15, which is provided with a felt or other suitable pad 16. The spring 14 is provided with upturned portions 17 and 18 which press against the lower ends 19 and 20'of the side inclined blocks 21 and 22, which are provided with pads 23 and 24 for cleaning the side uppers of a shoe. Rods 25, 26, 27 and 28 extend vertically through the base 1 and have fixed wings 29 and 30 on their lower ends whereby they may be rotated in order to make their right angular ends 33, 34, 35 and 36 engage theupper edges of the said blocks 21 and 22 to hold them against the tension of the spring arms '17 and 18, whereby they are held in place against the inclined walls 31 and 32. A clip 37 is fastened to the underside of the block 15 and running longitudinally thereof and has its ends 39 and 40 bent down at right angles to engage the central portion 38 of the base block, so as to hold the block 15 in place. A scraper 41 for scraping mud from shoes is fixed to the end 3 of the base 1 by means of a bolt 42, a recess 43 being provided in the base to receive the scraper. Scrapers 44 and 45 having their opposing ends 46 and 47 embedded in the Walls 7 and 8 are located over the openings 11 and 12.
The scraper 45 has a bent in portion 48 to receive the post 49, which is held in position by the bar 50 held by the bolts 51 and 52. The post 49 is for the purpose of grasping with the hand when scraping and cleaning a shoe for balancing onesself. The members 48 and 50 may be used as a Xmas tree holder when desired.
The modification shown in Fig. 7 is similar in all respects to the device shown in the other views except that brushes 53, 54
and 55 are provided in place of the blocks 7 15, 21 and 22.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to pro: cureby Letters Patent is A base having Walls inclined inwardly and downwardly, inclined pads seated thereagainst and rotatable hooks arranged to bear against the upper edges of said pads, spring arms bearing upward against the lower edges of said pads for holding them in engagement with said hooks, and a horizontal pad mounted between and engaging said other pads and holding them seated on said spring arms.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ENGLEY G. KILLERBRUE.
