Be it known that I, AMANUEL M. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairfield, in the county of Freestone and State of Texas, have invented a new and usefulTrace- Carrier, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and usefulimprovenients in trace-carriers; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, as will be more fully hereinafter described,and pointed out in the claims.

The several objects and advantages of this invention will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings, Figure l representsaperspective view of my improved trace-carrier shown attached to a back-band in dotted lines and a portion of a trace in position therein. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the carrier. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line x c in Fig. l.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a frame, preferably of rectangular shape, having a bar B thereon, with integral arms C at right angles thereto, formed with outwardlybent ends, which are sharpened or pointed in order to take into the back-band. To the center of the lower portion of the said frame A is secured the carrier-frame D, consisting of an elongated loop E and an eye E', which meetstheupturned endofsaidloopEandforms a projecting end F, which reduces the opening between the loop E and the eye E and provides acomparatively narrow entrance from said eye E into the loop E. The construction of the carrier is such that there is no projecting hook endsV or sharp points and angles and is entirely closed, thereby avoiding injury to an adjacent animal, which might be situated in proximity to an animal on which this device is mounted.

In mounting the trace in connection with the carrier` herein set forth it is first introduced through the eye or ring E and then passed over the projection F into the loop E, thereby securing the link of the trace-chain Serial No. 424.568. (No model.)

and preventing accidental detachment thereof. If the link should jump in the loop E, it would catch on the projection F, and if it should become disengaged from the projection F it will again return to the loop E. The eye E also forms a terret for the lines, if so desired, and also serves as a temporary support for said lines and prevents twisting of thesame around the traces, as is usually done, thereby keeping the lines from becoming tangled in the harness.

rPhe carrier proper may be secured to the frame in any Well-known manner, and the entire'device'can be made of heavy wire or malleable iron, thereby producing a strong, substantial, simple,.and cheap trace-carrier.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. In a trace-carrier, the combination, with an attaching-frame, of a carrier proper depending therefrom and consisting of an elongated loop with closelyarranged parallel sides and an upper eye overhanging and depending below-the upper portion of said loop, the juncture of the upper portion of said loop and eye being extended in the form of a projection, which narrows the opening between said loop and eye, said eye and loop being integral and rigid, substantially as described.

2. The combination of aframe having a bar extending thereacross with integral arms at right angles thereto, having outwardly-turned sharpened ends to form a means of attachment, and a carrier proper depending from said frame and consisting of an elongated loop and an upper eye having the juncture of the two extended inward to form a projection to narrow the opening between said loop and eye, the parts of said carrier proper being of integral rigid structure,substantially as described.
