SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,633, dated July 12, 1892.
Application filed March 24, 1892.

The stirrup-leather passes, as usual, through the eye 6, and the absence of one of the sides of the arch 0 does not in anyway affect the balance of the stirrup, While the india-rubber band 01 affords the rider a complete control over the stirrup in mounting and riding under ordinary circumstances.
Should an accident happen in which the rider is unable to free his foot from the stirrup, the band d will be disengaged from one of the studs 1) or b and the foot will be instantly released.
lVhat I claim is A stirrup having the tread, arch, and one side of metal and the remaining side formed of an elastic band d, looped at each end and passing over studs 1) b at the ends of the tread and arch.
