UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
EDUARD CREMER, OF MNSTER, GERMANY.
COCK FOR CASKS.
SPCIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,574, dated July 12, 1892.
Application tiled June 26, 1891. Serial No. 397,635. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: y
Be it known that I, EDUARD CREMER, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Mnster, in the Province of Westphalia, German Empire, have invented some new and useful Improvements in Cocks for Casks, of which the following is a clear and exact specification.
My invention relates to stop-cocks specially adapted for breweries for drawing off beer out of casks; and the object of the same is to enable the operator to draw off the beer clear of all sediments. I arrive at this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters denote similar parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure l is a sectional View of the complete device for drawing off liquor. Fig. 2 is the same attached to a cask in a sectional View, and Fig. 3 is a front View of Fig. 2.
a is the plug, provided with an oblique conical boring k and a stuffing-box S. By aid of attened parts on each side, fitting a special Spanner, the same may be easily screwed into a side or heading of a oask. Inserted into the boring 7c of the plug a and tightened by said stuffing-box s there is the cock c, which is provided with a long tubeb, projecting far into the cask and being shut up at its end and having oblique side holes by which the liquor flows out. By loosening the stuffingbox the cock c may be shifted in or out in a straight line for sake of adjustment or can be pulled out altogether. A small cock c', standing at an angle to the stop-cock c, is screwed onto the plug a. The bend d connects the cocks c with the gage-glass e, which on top again is connected to the wind-cock h by the pipe i. The main piping Z is also provided vwith a gage-glass g, which is connected to the stop-cock c by the bend f. By the.aforede scribed mechanism the clear beer may be drawn off out of casks down to the sediments, so that the same may be suitable for exportation or for storing. By the way the beer has been drawn olf hitherto, which was done with a siphon, the same had to be mixed up with other fresh beer and allowed to stand for some time before sending away. By my new system most of the sediments may be drawn off separately.
Having thus fully described the nature of this invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- The combination, with the plug a, having an oblique conical bore lo, of the stop-cock c,
having a long tube b, adapted to slide in said plug a in a straight line and to move upward and downward as well as to the sides of the stuffing-box s, the bend f, connecting the stopcock c to the main piping Z, the gage-glass g, the cock c', secured to the plug a and having a passage inclined downward, the bend d, the gage-glass e, the secondary pipe t', and the wind-cock h, substantially and for the purpose as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDUARD CREMER.
