To all whom it may concern.:

Be it known that I, CLAUDE THOMSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Window-Balconies; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to folding balconies or platforms employed for window-cleaning and like uses, the object of the present improvement being to provide a simple, cheap, and effective balcony construction embodying the features of a ready adaptability to different widths of windows and a capability of folding together in aconnected condition into a very compact form for storage'and transportation purposes. I attain such object by the construction and arrangement of parts -illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a horizontal rod permanently attached to the outer portion of the window frame or casing, and 2 the balcony platform or rest, provided at its inner edge with hooks 3, that engage around said rod to attach thebalcony in position. In the construction shown the hooks are on the end of a Inetal bow 4, to which the platform 2 is secured by attaching-eyes 5 and bolts orrivets 6, as shown. The side bars of the bow are free from the platform to admit of the adjustment of the rigid obliquely-arranged brace-feet 7, which are attached to said side bars by a slidable sleeve 8 and a clampingscrew 9, so as to be adjustable to suit different constructions of window-sills, dac., met with in use.

A folding railing for the platform 2 is formed in the following improved manner: 10 are eyes attached to the outer edge of the platform, in which are engaged eyes on the lower ends of the vertically-arranged bow 11,

the upper corners of which are also formed with eyes 12, in which are engaged the eyes on the hook-rods 13, the inner ends of which are adapted to hook into eyes 14 on the Window casing or frame, as clearly illustrated in the drawings.

My improved construction of balcony will readily lit any width of window, as Well as any shape of the wall adjacent to the window-sill, and owing to the loose eye connec- 6o tions of the different part-s the same will fold in a connected condition linto a very small or compact space and afford a great convenience in carrying the appliance from placeto place.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a folding window-balcony, the combination of the platform or rest 2 and its Inarginal bow 4, having hooks 3 formed on its 7o inner ends to engage theWindow-rod 1, with the obliquely-arranged brace-feet 7, slidable on the side Inembers of the bow 4 and provided with clampinOf-screws 9, said feet projecting downwardly and inwardly to rest against the wall and support the outer portion of the platform in proper position, as set forth.

. 2. In a folding window-balcony, the combination, with the platform and means for at- 8o taching its inner edge to the window-frame, of the obliquely-arranged brace-feet 7, slidable n the side rods of the platform and provided with clamping-screws 9, the eyes 10,

vertically-arranged bow l1, having cornereyes 12,11ook-rods l3,and eyes 14. on the window-frame, substantially as set forth.

3. In a folding window-balcony, the combination of the platform 2,metal bow 4.,having hooked inner ends to engage a fixed rod on 9o the window-frame, the eyes 10, vertically-arranged bow 11, having corner-eyes l2, hookrods 13, and eyes 14 on the window-frame, substantially as set forth.
