Description

(No Model.)
J. H. WENTZ. SGRAPER FOR BAND SAW PULLEYS.
Patented July 5, 1892.
UN TED STATES TENT OFFICE.
-JOSEPH HENRY W'ENTZ, OF BARAGA, MICHIGAN.
SCRAPER FOR'BAND-SAW PU LLEYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,148, dated July 5, 1892. Application filed March 8, 1892. Serial No. 424,203. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HENRY WENTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baraga, in the county of Baraga and-State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Scrapers for Band-Saw Pulleys; and I do declare the following to vhe a full, clear, and exact description of the in- Vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a newrand useful improvement in scrapers for band-saw pulleys; and it consists, generally stated, in providing means for yieldingly holding the scraper-plate in uniform contact with the periphery of the pulley. This object I obtain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like letters of reference refer to like parts wherever they occur, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
In the drawings, A indicates the standard or support for the pulley, B the pulley, and B the band-saw.
0 indicates a plate secured to the standard, having a projection or plate 0 extending from the upper edge thereof, to which is secured a supporting-shelf D, provided with an opening d, the purposes of which will hereinafter he described.
Mounted in pedestals d on the shelf D is a rock-arm E, said arm being formed with adownward extension at its outer end, from which projects a bearing 6, through which passes a set-screw F.
Secured to an upward extension of the arm is the scraper-plate G, being perforated for the passage of a bolt g, which yieldingly holds the same against the extension through the medium of a star or yielding washer g.
F indicates a set-screw passing through the bearing 6 of the arm E, and has pivotally secured on its upper end a split or bifurcated bearin g f, in which is mounted a grooved myself to the exact position of the roller f, adapted to normally contact with the base of the scraper-plate and retain'the same in a uniform contact with the periphery of the pulley.
Passing through a bearing e at the inner end of the arm E is a set-screw H, provided with a cap h at its upper end, which acts in the capacity of afollower for aspring I, whose other end is retained in place by a lug c on the under side of the plate 0. To tighten or hold the scraper-plate in firmer contact with the periphery of the pulley, it is only neces, sary to compress the spring I by extending the screw H through the bearing, which will exert a downward pressure on the inner end of the'rock-arm E, which, being pivoted in the pedestals, will force the scraper-plate against the pulley.
I do not wish to be understood as confining with relation to the pulley nor the means of support, for it will be obvious that the same could be'easily applied to the lower pulley; also, ifdesired, it could be supported by the shield instead of the standard.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1: In a scraper'for band-saw pulleys, the combination, with the pulley and its support, of a shelf mounted on the support, a rock-arm mounted on the shelf, a scraper-plate yieldingly secured to one end of the arm, and a spring exerting its force on the opposite end of the arm to normally hold the scraper-plate in contact with the pulley, substantially as and for the purposes described. r
2. In a scraper for band-saw pulleys, the combination, with the pulley and its support, of a shelf attached to the support, a rock-arm mounted on the shelf, a scraper-plate yieldingly secured to one end of the rock-arm, a roller mounted in the arm for holding the plate in even contact with the pulley, and a spring for normally holding the plate in contact with the pulley, substantially as and for the purposes described.
3. In a scraper for band-saw pulleys, the combination, with the pulley and its support, of a shelf attached to said support, pedestals scraper V on the shelf, a rock-arm mounted in the pod I estals, a scraper-plate secured on one end of the arm, an adjustable roller normally contacting with the base of the scraper-plate, a spring for exerting force on the other arm, and means for regulating the tension of the spring, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH HENRY XVENTZ.
