TELEPHONE-TABLET SUPPORT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,932, dated June 28, 1892.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that we, JOSEPH S. GOLD and ADAM H. MCALPINE, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain newand usef ulI m provements in Telephone-Tablet Supports; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in telephone-tablets; and it consists in the clamp .of the construction fully described hereinafter, and particularly referred to in the claims.

The object of our present invention is to provide a support for a tablet-shelf which is constructed as hereinafter shown and described,\vhereby it is capable of being clamped directly to the lid of the telephone-battery box, and which is very simple and cheap to manufacture.

In thedrawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a telephone, showing our invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the shelf support-and clamp.

A indicates the lid of an ordinary telephone battery-box to which our invention is applied.

Our invention consists of a support for a shelf B, which carries at its upper end a roll of paper D, which passes down under a shelf or vertical support E near the upper end of the shelf B and down over the shelf B and under a cutter F. The shelf B is cut out at G, so that the finger can be placed under the cutter F and the paper, and thus pull the pa: per out-after it has been written upon to be torn off, as will be readily understood. Our

present invention does not consist in the construction of these parts, and they do not need to be further described in this connection.

The shelf B is secured to the longitudinallyslotted arms H by means of screws which pass through the slots into the under side of the shelf. These arms project from a clamp J, which is composed of the two upper projecting arms L, which are preferably of the same length, as shown, and which rest upon the upper face of the battery-box lid A, and the lower projecting-arms Maud N,which together form a jaw. The inner lower arm N is very short to extend under the side of the batterybox lid, and the outer arm M is made long and extends along under the projecting lower edge of the lid and is provided with a clamping-screw P. It will be noticed that it is necessary for the inner arm N to be short in order to fit under the projecting side edge of the box, and the lower or outer arm Mis nec- 6o essarily comparatively long to enable the support to be firmly held by the clam pingscrew. So, also, the upper arms L are made longer than the short under arm, so as to give a greater bearing-surface upon the box-lid, and thus make the support more firm.

By means of a support of the above-described construction it will be seen that we have a very simple one and one cheap to manufacture, as well as easily applied.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A telephone-tablet-shelf support comprising a jaw having upper and lower projecting arms, one of said arms having a clam ping-screw, and lon gitudinally-proj ectin g arms to which the shelf is attached, substantially as specified. I

2. A telephone-tablet-shelf support comprising a jaw having upper and lower projecting arms, the inner lower arm being short, for the purpose described, and the outer lower arm being long and provided with a clamping-screw, and projecting arms which support the shelf, substantially as set forth.
