W. G. HUSS. COMBINED BAR DRAINER AND COOLER.

.FIG-3.
`NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. HUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
COMBINED BAR DRAINER AND COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,758, dated June 28, 1892. Application tiled December 14, 18 91. Serial No. 415,033. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. IIUSS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and uscful Improvements in a Combined Bar Drainer and Cooler; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the annexed drawings, which form part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a bar with a receptacle capable of performing the twofold duties of a cooler and a drainer for glasses and other drinkingvessels, the peculiar construction of said receptacle and the method of using the same being hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a vertical section of the upper part of a bar or counter provided with my combined drainer and cooler. Fig. 2 is a plan of the cooler, the lid and drainer being detached therefrom. Fig. 3 is a modification of my invention.
In the preferred construction of my in vention I provide a rectangular frame A, usually of cast metal, and rabbet the same at B to afford a bearing for a perforated plate C, that constitutes the drainer proper, said drainer being loosely applied to said frame, so as to be readily removed therefrom.
D is a gutter of the frame, and E a vertical flange at the inner side of said gutter, the object of this Aflange being to retain a lid F in its proper place. Lid F is made roof-shaped, so as to shed all drainings into the glitter D; but said lid should not come in contact with the perforated plate G is a pipe leading from gutter D to the icereceptacle I-I, which latter is generally made of sheet metal and is inclosed within a non-conducting jacket or casing I of any appropriate construction.
J is adrain-pipe at the lower end of said receptacle, and K is an annular flange at the upper end thereof, which flange is soldered to the under side of frame A.
The dotted lines L represent a coil of pipe that may be inserted within the receptacle I-I for the purpose of cooling beer or other liquors; or these liquors can be kept in. botiles placed within said receptacle.
M is a drip-pan for collecting any liquor that may escape at the faucet of the coil. N is a pipe leading from said pan to the common waste-pipe J.
O are holes to receive screws P, wherewith the frame A is secured to the bar or counter R, the attachment being such as to cause the upper surface of plate C to be iush with the top of said bar.
From the above description it is evident that when tumblers, mugs, and other drinking-Vessels are inverted upon theplate O all drainings from said vessels will run through the perforations of said plate and fall on the inclined lid F, which latter sheds these liquids into the gutter D. The drainings then escape from this gutter through the pipe G and run into the receptacle I-I, the iinal escape be ing at the pipe J, which eXit also carries olf all water resulting from the melting of ice within the cooler. By simply lifting off the plate C and then removing the lid F the cooler I-I can be charged with ice at any time and without disturbing or interfering with other parts of the apparatus.
In the modification of my invention seen in Fig. 3 the frame a, gutter d, iiange e, and
receptacle 7L are formed of a single casting, which may be lined with a non-corrosive flling or coating.
I claim as my invention- The combination of an ice-boxl IIwith an upper frame A, provided with a removable drainer C, annular gutter D, and detachable lid F, the lid being located under said drainer `and the gutter D being connected with said ice-box I-I by a wasteway G, substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. HUSS. Vitnesses:
JAMES H. LAYMAN, FRANCIS M. BIDDLE.
