(No Model.)
W. H. BIGKELHAUPT.
BOX FOR HATS, BONNETS, 840. No. 471,494. Patented June 21, 1892.
W/TNESSES: INVENTOR- m'llz'am mic/mm, hmmd BY A TTORNE YS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VYILLIAM H. BIOKELHAUPT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOX FOR HATS, BONNETS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,494, dated June 21, 1892. Application filed December 26, 1891. Serial No. 416,207. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. 810mm- HAUPT,acitizen of the United States, residing at New York,in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Hats, Bonnets, and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in boxes for hats,'bonnets, and other articles; and by means of this invention the contents of the box can be securely held in place therein, as set forth in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a box containing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1 with the cover removed. Fig. 3 is a section of a modification.
In the drawings the letterAindicates a box. By providing the box with a block or rest B such an article as a bonnet C, Fig. 1,, can be properly placed therein. Clamps or fastenings D are made to grasp or engage the article C. In case of a hat or bonnet it is of advantage to let the. fastenings D engage the lining, so that the exterior is not injured in appearance. The fastenings D are each provided with a pair of strings E E and F F. These string-pairs extend from the interior of the box through holes G to the exterior. Vhen the article is in the box and engaged by the fastenings D, the string-pair E is tied together above the article before the cover H is in place, and when the cover is put on the other stringpair F is tied about the cover to hold the latter in place. Should the string-pair F become loosened and the cover fall off, the other string-pair E will still remain to hold the article in place.
Instead of engaging the article by means of clamps or fastenin gs a string may be arranged to engage the article directly, as in the case of Fig. 3, where the string E engages or extends about the article O, (for exam ple a muff,) so as to hold the article fixed in the box, and said string can also serve to hold down the boxcover.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a box having a cover, of a string extending through the wall of the box to connect with and retain an article located therein and adapted to be secured over the box-cover to hold the latter in position, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a box having a cover, of a string having a portion arranged inside the box to connect with and retain an article located therein, passing through the box to the exterionthereof, and having ends to tie over and hold the box-cover in position, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a box having a cover, of a string arranged inside the box and having clasps to engage an article within the box, said string passing through the box-wall to the exterior thereof and having ends to tie over and hold the box-cover in position, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with a box having a cover, of a pair of strings having clasps arranged in the box to connect with and retain an article therein, said strings passing through the box-Wall to the exterior thereof and adapted to be tied below and above the box-cover, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. BICKELHAUPT.
Witnesses:
