SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 477,056, dated June 14, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDGAR T. KIRKPATRICK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Adrian, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billet Attachments for Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in billet attachments for harness.

The object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the above description for use in connection with harness, whereby the loops of'the straps connected with the buckles or other metallic fastening devices are protected against wear, and thus rendered more durable and efficient, the invention be ing especially adapted to the straps which connect the traces and back-pad, and other parts which are subjected to great strain.

The invention consists in the improved at" tachment hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a harness-strap, showing my attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the attachment.

In the said drawings the attachment is shown as consisting of a box 1, of malleable or other metal or rubber, adapted to admit of the passage therethrough of aleatherstrap 2 of the proper size. This box is formed or provided with a tongue 3, which projects outwardly and then inwardly, forming a loop or hook, as seen in Figs. 1 and 3. By extending the tongue back underneath the box in an inclined direction, as shown, a spring-arm 4 is formed, which prevents accidental disengagement of the buckle or other connection from the loop.

In practice the strap is passed through. the box 1 and passed around the tongue 3, and the buckle or other connection is engaged with said tongue.

From the above it will be seen that the buckle-loop does not come in contact with the loop of the strap, but engages with the tongue 3 of the attachment, whereby the strap is prevented from wear, and consequently rendered more lasting and durable.

My invention is adapted to straps of every description which are bent over and connected with metallic fastening devices or connections of any kind.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is As an improved article,abillet attachment for harness and other straps, consisting of a rectangular box having a projection bent downwardly into a loop and then backwardly in an inclined direction underneath the box and extending to the opposite end thereof, forming a spring-arm to prevent accidental disengagement of the buckle orother connection, substantially as described.
