B. A. BRYANT. DENTAL FLASK HOLDER.
Patented May 31, 1892.
WITNESSES. IIVVENTOI? 6? ax 04 mm 5% ATTORNEY.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMORY A. BRYANT, OF ASPEN, COLORADO.
DENTAL-FLASK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 476,125, dated May 31, 1892.
Application filed January 10, 1891. Renewed April 14. 1892, Serial No. 429,124. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMORY A. BRYANT, of Aspen, Pitkin county, in the State of 0010- rado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental-Flask Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompany drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the holder.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the various forms of flasks.
This inventionrelates to the handling of the metal flasks used by dentists in the manufacture of sets of teeth with celluloid or rubber bases or plates, avoiding the handling 'with bare hands of the flask While hot or covered with the flask grime or dirt usually attending the process of vulcanizing.
The object of my invention is to obviate the necessity of the dentist handlingthe flasks with the bare hands or with gloves or cloths, as usually done heretofore, and to enable him to take the flask from the vulcanizer or from a-pan of hot water and to hold the flask in the differentpositions needed while pouring hot Water upon the invested wax bases to remove the wax from the investing material and by the peculiar construction of the flaskholder that portion designed to inclose the flask clutching and encircling it, fitting round the various contours, and the lugs extending outwardly from the sides and back of the flasks, thereby clutching the flask firmly when closed'upon it and the handles pressed with the hand, enabling the dentist using the same to hold the flask firmly without its turning or slipping in his grip while screwing the nuts upon the bolts which hold the different parts of the flasks in their proper position or while handling the flask in any of the various positions needed in the process of investing, packing, cleaning, and putting in or taking from the vulcanizer or hot water, thereby lessening the danger of dropping and spoiling the work invested, scalding or burning the hands with preparations which are injurious to the skin and even with which it is impossible to get rid of the dirt and grime which comes off the flasks when handled with the appliances heretofore used or with the bare hands.
The work to which my invention is appli' cable is as unlimited as laboratory work itself, and I am enabled to handle any and all of the various sizes, shapes, and kindsof dental flasks manufactured with ease, comfort,
and without danger of dropping, slipping, or turning of flasks or of burning, scalding, or dirtying my hands while performing the various operations pertaining to flasking, investing, packing, washing, cleaning, and vulcanizing.
In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A represent the handles of the holder pivoted together at a. The interior surface of the rear ends of these handles may be serrated or roughened, as shown at K, for the purpose of enabling them to be used as tongs for grasping the flask D when in a vulcanizer or when heated.
C O are jaws formed on the outer ends of the handles A A. These jaws are shown as of irregular approximately semicircular form, meeting at their free ends. Around the interior surface of the jaws are the inwardlyextending lugs or projections B which serve to hold the flask D when the jaws are closed therearound.
Having described this invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The dental-flask holder comprising the pivoted jaws having the inwardly-extending lugs or projections around their inner surfaces, substantially as specified.
2. The dental-flask holder comprising the pivoted jaws of irregular semicircular form, having the inwardly-extending lugs or projections around their inner surfaces and the inner surface of the rear portions of the handles serrated or roughened, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMORY A. BRYANT.
