PAPER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,308, dated May 24, 1892.
Application filed March 12, 1892. Serial No. 424,727. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. GRAY, a cit-izen of the United States, residing at Beloit, county of Rock,and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a holder for papers in which their appearance is neat and orderly and from which any one may be Withdrawn with ease and Without disturbing the others.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an isometrical representation of my paperholder opened to its widest extent. Fig. 2 is an isometrical view of the same closed.
In the construction of this paper-holder I provide a back 1, and formed integral with this the sectional bottom 2, the slots therein being for the reception of the vertical bars 3 of the movable front of the holder. This mo vable front is of lattice-work pattern, having the vertical bars 3 and 4 and cross-bars 5, joining them together. The bars 3 are joined at their bottom ends by the horizontal bar 6, which lies below the bottom 2.
To connect the movable front of the holder to the back, I provide the two pairs of links at each side composed of the links 7 and 8, the former pivot-ally secured to ears 9 on the front of the bracket, the latter to the back 1, and both intermediately to the perpendicular weight 10, the tendency of whioh,acting upon the links 7 and 8, is to draw the movable front toward the back 1, and papers placed between them will be held firmly in place. The ends of the bars 4 rest on the bottom 2, the raised ribs 11 on the bottom holding them from lateral displacement. In this purpose they are aided by the rods 12, projecting from the back 1 and extending through holes in the movable front, the particular office of which is to confine the papers, keeping them out of the Way I of the links 7 and 8. The hole 14 is provided for attaching the holder to the wall or other point of support.
To place papers in the holder, the movable front is drawn forward and the paper or papers inserted when releasing the front. The weight of the bar 10 compresses the papers between the front and back and holds them securely in position.
I claim as my invention- 1. A paper-holder having a back, a front, and a support for the front extending from the back, the front capable of a bodily-sliding movement on the support to and from the back.
2. A paper-holder having a back, a front, a support for the front extending from the back, the front capable of a bodily-sliding movement on the support to and from the back, and a link connection between the front and the back.
3. A paper-holder having a back, a front, a support for the front extending from the back, the front capable of a bodily-sliding movement on the support to and from the back, a link connection between the front and the back, and means for moving the front.
4. A paper-holder having a back, a front, a support for the front extending from the back, the front capable of a movement on the support to and from the back, a link connection between the front and the back, and aweight for moving the front.
5. A paper-holder having a back, a front-,a support for the front extending from the back, the front capable of a movement on the support to and from the back, links pivoted to the front, and links pivoted to the back, said links pivotally joined in pairs to a connecting-bar.
6. Apaper-holder having a back, a sectional bottom affixed thereto, a front resting on the bottom having a double-jointed-link connection with the back, an arm connecting the pairs of links, bars from the front extending through openings inthebottom,a connectingrod for the lower ends of the bars, and guidebars extendin g from the back through openings in movable front.
