SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,989, dated March 29, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. BUSH, of VVeedsport, in the county of Cayuga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Merchandise-Exhibitors, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention is designed to be used in IO stores, and chieflyforcarryinglamp-chimneys in a position which displays them to advantage, renders them safe from being broken, and ready of access when desired, said invention being, however, also adapted to display samples of other merchandise.

It consists, essentially, of an uncased revoluble skeleton frame disposed axially horizontally and carryinglongitudinal bars about its axis and hangers connected to said bars and adapted to carry the samples of merchandise, all as hereinafter more fully described, and specifically set forth in the claim.

In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is an end View of a merchandise-exhibitor embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front View of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section of the shaft of said exhibitor.

o 0 represents the shaft of an uncased or exposed revoluble skeleton frame, which shaft is disposed horizontally and journaled at opposite ends to its supports. When the exhibitor is to be used for carryinglamp-chimneys,

as shown, the aforesaid supports consist of sleeves a a, secured vertically and stationary in their position, preferably by means of diagonal braces t 15, connected at their lower ends to said sleeves and at their upper ends to the ceiling of the store. To said sleeves are connected vertically adj ustably the hangers b 1), preferably by the latter passing loosely through the sleeves and perforated at different points in their length for the reception of pins 2', by which they are retained in their adjusted position. Said adjustability allows the shaft 0 to be raised or lowered to render convenient of access the lamp-chimneys carried on the exhibitor.

On the ends of the shaft 0 are rigidly mounted the spiders d d, and to these spiders are pivoted longitudinal bars 6 e e, to which are loosely connected a series of hangers ZZZ, formed hook-shaped at their lower ends or otherwise adapted to carry removably the lamp-chimneys or other samples of merchan-' dise. I also prefer to suspend similar hangers ZZ from the shaft 0, and in order to maintain said hangers in a vertical position while the shaft is being turned I mount loosely on said shaft a sleeve 0 and connect the aforesaid hangers to said sleeve, as shown in Fig.

To prevent the reel or spiders d d from turning back by gravity in case one or more chimneys a care removed from the front hangers Z, I attach to one of the spiders d a ratchet-wheel f and pivot to the hanger b adjacent to said spider a dog h, which engages the ratchet-wheel, as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a merchandise-exhibitor, the combination, with fixed sleeves or guide-supports, of a vertically-adj ustable reel j ournaled in hangers operating in said sleeves or guides, means for adjusting the reel vertically, a ratchet and pawl for controlling the revolution of said reel, and a sleeve loosely mounted on the reelshaft, whereby articles suspended from said sleeve will be maintainedin vertical position when the reel is revolved, substantially as specified.
