CORN-SHOCKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,132, dated March 22, 1892.
Application filed April 28, 1891. Serial No. 390,755- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
. Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MUNcH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maplewood, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Shockers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to corn-Shockers.
The object of my improvements is to provide a simple and eifective corn-shocker which can be cheaply constructed and capable of being folded up so as to be conveniently stored when not in use.
For these purposes my invention consists in the following construction and combination of parts, which will first be fully described in detail, and the points of novelty then set forth in the claim.
Figure l is a side elevation embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a top plan of the same.
In the drawings, 1 represents the main vertical standard.
2 are metal prongs or blades afiixed to the bottom of standard 1, as shown, and 3 a diagonal brace to steady the blade, projecting in the direction of the shock-arm.
4 is an adjustable piece having a hole 5 therein, through which the angular standard 1 passes.
6 is a set-screw by means of which the piece 4 is adj ustably set at any desired height upon the standard 1.
7 is the shock-arm, and 8 a pivot by means of which it is pivotally connected to the ad- The shock-arm 7 consists of the inner pivoted section 9 and the outer section 10, which carries the operating parts.
11 are straps, and 12 a set-screw upon the sections 9 and 10, by means of which the shockarm is made adj ustably extensible to any position desired.
13 is a latch pivoted at 14 to the piece 4, and 15 is a spring constantly bearing against the pivoted latch for the purpose of locking the shock-arm 7 in a horizontal position when desired.
16 is an arm or blade pivotally hung to the extreme end of the shock-arm and adapted to project in a horizontal position or to swing upward.
17 is a casting or metal piece formed on one side of the shock-arm and securely bolted thereto and provided with arearward brace 18.
19 is an eyebolt secured to the casting or piece 17.
20 are two swinging arms or rods pivoted in the eyebolt- 19.
21 is a notch formed in the shock-arm, and 22 is another notch in line with notch 21. Within these notches the arms 20 lie in the same line when the shock of corn is formed. The set-screw 6 permits the height of the shock-arm to be regulated to suit the height of the corn, and the adjustment in the length of the shock-arm provides a means for handling differently-sized shocks. The corn-shock is formed upon and against the arm 16 and the arms 20. By depressing the shock-arm 7 the arms 16 and 20 are raised so that they can be pulled out of the shock without catching therein.
