Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. 'CHAoE, of Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Picker Straps for Looms; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention has reference to an improvement in the construction of a picker-strap; and it consists in providing one or both of the end loops with an automatically-adjustable bearing-block, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

The object of the invention is to provide a picker-strap with a bearing-block or blocks having a broad bearing on the picker-stick and the picker-arm, either or both,which broad bearing-surface will adjust itself to the motion of the picker-stick, and which, when one face is worn, may be turned so as to present a new bearing.

Figure l is a side elevation showing a pickerstick and a picker-arm in solid lines in one tion, and also my improved picker-strap connecting the picker-stick and picker-arm. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the pickerstrap, showing the adjustable blocks in connection with the picker-stick and picker-arm. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the picker-strap.

Similar numbers of reference designate corresponding parts throughout.

In the drawings, the numeral 4: indicates the picker-stick; 5, the picker-arm; 6, the central link of the picker-strap; 7 7 two bolts by which the picker-arm loop and the pickerstick loop are secured to the central link; 8, the picker-arm loop, and 9 the picker-stick loop. The picker-arm loop 8 is composed of the two side straps 10, secured to the central link 6 by the bolt 7 and the block 11, having two or more sides adapted to bear against the picker-arm -5. The block 11 is preferably made square, having four straight sides, adapted each to form a bearing on the pickerarm. The block 11 is secured between the Serial No. 408,675. (No model.)

straps 10 by the bolt 12, and is held sufficiently loose so that it can turn on the bolt and oscillate on the same, so as to adapt itself to the ever-changing position of the arm 5.

The picker-strap is supported in the desired position by pins 20, projecting on each side of the picker-stick and pickerarm, as is indicated in Fig. 1, or in the same manner as picker-straps are usually secured by a loop or other equivalent device.

The picker-stick loop is composed of the two side straps 13, each provided near one end with the slot 14, so that the same may be adjustably secured to the central link 6, and thereby the strap adjusted lengthwise, andthe block 15, secured between the straps 13 by the bolt 16 in the same manner in which the block 11 is secured, so as to automatically adjust itself to the changing position of the pickerstiek and always hear fairly against the side of the same.

All parts of the strap excepting the bolts are usually made of leather, but may be made of any other suitable material, either in whole or in part.

As the blocks 11 and 15 bear on the pickerstick and picker-arm along the whole length of the bearing-face, they do not injure the same as do the straps, in which only a short portion of the strap bears on the same, as is the case in the straps as heretofore constructed, and as the blocks can be turned when one bearing-face is worn, and thereby present a new face, the strap will be efficient and useful until all four of the faces of the blocks are Worn, and when so worn, by replacing the worn blocks with new blocks the wearing parts of the picker-strap are readily renewed.

It is obvious that a picker-strap may be made so that only one of the end loops is provided with the automatically-adj ustable and reversible bearing-block, while the other end is provided with the ordinary loop.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.
