To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OHANoY O. 'SHULTs, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of WVinterset, in the county of Madison and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Folding Curtain-Support for Lining Graves, &c., of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide means to support a curtain depending in a grave to conceal the walls thereof, which support may be adjustable to suit the varying sizes of graves, and also may be folded together and used as a base on which to wind the curtain when not in use.

My invention consists in a portable and adjustable frame and curtain support constructed and adapted to be operated as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of the folding support with curtain-rings thereon. Fig. 2 is ,a detail View of the hinged joint of the device. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the support folded. Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing my device applied to a grave as required for practical use. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing my device applied as a screen for a bier, bed, &c.

A and A represent poles, which form the sides of my device and are parallel to each other at all times. B and B represent poles, which form the ends of my device and are parallel to each other when the device is in use. One end of each of the poles is chamfered and is pivoted within the bifurcated end of a block 0, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. This block 0 is perforated at right angles to the bifurcation and in the same horizontal plane therewith. The other end of each of said poles is inserted in the perforation in the block 0 on one of the other poles, and is adj ustably secured therein by means of a setscrew D.

In Fig. 5, H represents posts, each having aperforation in the upper end portion to ad mit the outer projecting end portion of the poles.

In the practical use of my invention the curtain depends within the grave, and the projecting portions of the poles rest upon and are supported by the surface of the ground at the sides of the grave. By loosening the set-screws D the distance between the parallel poles may be changed to suit the vary- \Vhen not in use, the frame may be folded, as shown in Fig. 3, and the curtain wrapped about the same to facilitate storing and packing.

I claim as my invention 1. A folding curtain-support comprising a plurality of poles, each having a block pivoted thereto, said blocks being each provided with a perforation to admit the free end of one of the other poles, as and for the purposes stated.

2. A portable and adjustable curtain-support for inclosing a coffin and lining graves, comprising an oblong frame consisting of two parallel poles, each having a perforated block at one end, two short poles adapted to be eX- tended through the said perforated blocks, and each provided with a perforated block at one end adapted to admit the end of one of the said parallel poles, posts detachablyconnected with the corners of the oblong frame, and means for attaching curtains to'the frame to operate inrthe manner set forth, for the purposes stated.
