To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN P. HUBER, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, forming, a part hereof. i

My invention relates to improvements i vehicle-seats; and it consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and designated in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a vehicle-body having my invention applied thereto and in posit-ion to be used. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of avehicle-body having myinvention applied thereto, showing the same when not in use or in a folded position. Fig. 3 is a detail view in perspective.

The objectof my invention is to construct a device or folding attachment which maybe secured to the seat of the vehicle and adapted, when open or unfolded, to provide a third seat for the accommodation of a third person.

My invention is especially applicable to buggy-seats, and heretofore when it was desired to carry a third person it was necessary for the said third person to inconvenience the other persons in the vehicle, there being no room to accommodate said third person.

By the use of my invention the third party can be easily accommodated with a seat by unfolding the device, as hereinafter described, and when the said third party or person is seated upon the same he does not in any way inconvenience the other parties.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 represents a plate of sufficient size and dimensions and is provided with a suitable number of holes 2, by means of which the said plate may be secured to either the upper or under surface of the seat proper of the vehicle, as best shown in Fig. 1, through which holes screws or bolts 3 are inserted and secured to the said seat. The forward end of the plate 2 projects somewhat forward and passes the front edge of the seat, said portion of said plate terminating into ears 4, by means of which the other parts of my device may be united. I

5 represents an arm of sufficient length, one end of which is inovably secured between the ears 4, formed on the plate 1, by means of a bolt 6. The opposite end of the arm 5 is provided with ears 7, within which ears is movably secured a leg or support 8. Said leg or support 8, is movably connected within said ears formed upon the arm 5 by means of a bolt 9. The upper end of the leg or support 8 extends somewhat above the pivotal point thereof forming a bearing 10, which bearing 11 represents a plate, which is secured to the top surface of the arm 5 and is movablyconnected thereto by means of a bolt 12. Said plate 11 when open, as shown in dottedlines in Fig. 1, forms a support for the additional seat 13. When it is desired to hold the device the said plate 11 is turned in relation to the arm 5, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby thesaid plate will form no obstruction inclosing.

It will be observed that the seat 13 is removableand can be placed, when not in use, under the seat of the vehicle or any other convenient portion of the body of the vehicle.

The lower end or base portion of the leg or support 8 terminates into a socket 14, which socket is received by a pin or projection 15, secured to the floor of the body of the vehicle. By this means the device is held rigid and detained in its proper position when open.

It will be noticed that the upholstering for the seat of the buggy or vehiclethat is to say, the ordinary seat--may be divided in order to form a space within which the device, as heretofore described, can be accommodated when closed or folded. However, the matter of constructing the upholstering can be accomplished in any desirable manner to accommodate the device when closed or folded.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. An attachment for vehicle-seats, consisting of a plate adapted to be secured to the said seat, an arm pivotally secured to the said plate, a leg or support hinged to the said arm, and a removable seat carried by the said arm and adapted to be removed therefrom, substantially as set forth.

2. An attachment for vehicle-seats, consisting of a plate, such as 1, adapted to be secured to the said seat, an arm 5, connected to the said plate, a leg or support 8, movably connected to the said arm, a plate, such as 11, movably attached to the arm 5, and a removable seat 13, adapted to rest upon said arm and plate, substantially as set forth.
