SCFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,425, dated February 23, 189.2.
` Application filed June 30, 1890. Serial No. 357,273. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing in Bassettville township, in the county of Decatur and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Harness, of which 'the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in trace-clips.
The objectof the present invention is to simplify and improve the means for securing a trace to a hame and to provide a strong connection which will yield to the motion of an animal.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a trace provided with a clip constructed in accordance with this invention. Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are detail views. Fig. 6 is adetail sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a trace provided with a series of perforations 2 and is adjustably secured to a buckle 3 and is designed to be connected by a clip et with a hanne. The clipa consists of a hinged eye Saud a socket 6, to which the eye is hinged and which is rectangular and is provided with perforated lugs 7, adapted for the reception of a piutle 8, and receiving between them the perforated ends 9 of the eye 5. The eye 5 is twisted and its ends 9 are enlarged and are arranged opposite each other. The socket has an opening 10 to receive the forward end of the trace 1, which is secured therein by screws. The buckle 3 is provided with four loops 11 and a central tongue 12, and the loops are arranged in the form of a square and provide two ways, one for the trace and the other for a billet-strap 18. The trace and the strap cross each other, and they are adapted to be adjusted. The buckle 3 has a sunken or depressed portion to receive the strap 13, so that the latter may be adjusted without wearing the trace.
The trace is provided with a section 14, having a buckle to increase and diminish the length of the trace, and provided at one end with a cockeye and at the other end with a loop 15, which flexibly connects the sections of the trace.
Vhat I claim is- In a haine-tug, the combination of a traceclip comprising a rectangular socket having a longitudinal opening to receive atrace and provided with perforated lugs arranged at one end and disposed at each side and at au intermediate point and adapted to receive a pintle, the eye having its 'end twisted and arranged on the recesses formed by said lugs and enlarged and perforated and hinged to 'said lugs, and a buckle provided with four loops 11 and having two ways arranged at right angles to each other, one of said ways being sunken or depressed and the other way being formed by elevated portions, whereby one strap is held out of friotional contact with the other and is prevented wearing the same, substantially as described.
