Description

Z T N E P L (No Model.)
BURGLAR ALARM.
No. 469,865. Patented Feb. 23. 1892.
ATTORNEY.
STATES Uriirnn PATENT OFFICE.
LEVI PENTZ, or CANTON, OHIO.
BURGLAR-ALARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,365, dated February 23,1892. Application filed August 31, 1891. Serial No. 404,384. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI PENTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the alarm properly set and attached to the door casing or jamb. Fig. 2 is a top view showing the hammer-disk removed. Fig. 3 is an edge view showing the spring-drum and cartridgereceptacle. Fig. 4 is a bottom or under side view of the hammer-disk. Fig. 5 is a top view of the hammer-disk.- Fig. 6 is an edge view of the hammer-disk. Fig. 7 is a transverse section showing the spring properly located. Fig. 8 is a detached view of the spring. Fig. 9 is a detached view of a cartridge. Fig. 10 is a detached view of the disk for holding the hammer-disk-actuating lever or arm. Fig. 11 is a detached View of the center rivet. Fig. 12 is a detached view of the hammer-disk-aotuat-ing lever or arm.
The present invention has relation to burglar-alarms; and it consists in the difierent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the spring barrel or drum, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, and, as shown, it isprovided with the shank a, to which shank is attached in any convenient and well-known manner the screw b, or, if desired, said screw may be formed integral with the shank a.
The spring barrel or drum A is provided with the cartridge-receptacle B, which is located substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and is for the purpose of receiving and holdinga cartridge. To the spring barrel or drum A is pivotally attached the hammerdisk 0, which hammer-disk is provided with the cartridge-hammer o. The l1ammer-disk C is held in proper position by means of the center rivet d or its equivalent. For the purpose of assisting in holding the hammer-disk C in proper position the flange or collar d is provided, which flange or collar is received into the spring barrel or drum A,.substantially as illustrated in Fig. 7.
The actuating-spring D is located as illustrated in Fig. 7 and, as shown in Fig. 8, it is provided with the extensions 6, the top or upper extension being held in the recess f and the lower extension bearing against the pin or post g.
To the hammer-disk O is pivotally attached the actuating lever or arm E by means of the pin or post h and the disk It.
For the purpose hereinafter described the actuating lever or arm E is provided with the elongated slot is.
In use, when it is desired to set the alarm the device is attached to the door or window casing by means of the screw 1), at which time the actuating lever or armEis placed in such a position that the notch or recess It will engage the pin or post k and the outer end of the actuating lever or arm E extend a short distance past the edge of the door or window sash, it being understood that a cartridge is to be properly placed within the receptacle B before the device is attached, as above described, and the door or window properly closed before the actuating lever or arm E is placed in working position. It will be understood that in the event a door or window is opened it will press against the free endof the actuating lever or arm E and move said lever or arm a short distance and rotate the hammer-disk O, which in turn compresses the spring D. When the door or window has fully passed the free end of the lever or arm E, said lever or arm is set free and the spring D causes the hammer-disk to assume its normal position, which in turn causes the hammer c to strike and discharge the cartridge. For the purpose of placing the actuating 1ever or arm E in a position so as not to act upon the disk-hammer C the elongated slot is provided.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
lhe combination of the spring-barrel A, provided with the shank a and the screw 11, the In testimony that I claim the above Ihave cartridge-receptacle B, the hammer disk 0, hereunto subscribed my name in the presence 10 provided with the hammer c and the flange of two witnesses.
or collar 61', provided with the recess f, the
v 7' 1r lever or arm E, provided with the slot 76 and PENrlA' the recess 70, the pins or posts h and 70 and Witnesses: the spring D,substantiai1 y as and for the pur FRED WV. BOND, pose specified. E. A. 0. SMITH.
