CARPET-CLEANING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,522, dated February 9, 1892.
Application filed June 3, 1891. Serial No. 395,000- (No model.)
To 0% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. LA FOUN- TAINE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpet- Cleaning Machines, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to rotary machines for cleaning carpets, rugs, &c.; and it consists of the peculiar constructions and combinations as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
The nature and objects of this new construction and combination will fully appear from the subjoined description and in the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure l is a perspective View of my new carpet-cleaner. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.
A represents the ends of a circular cage, consisting of spokes secured to a center hubplate a, having trunnions for pivotally suspending the cage between posts, as B B. The heads of the cage are encircled with rings of fellies secured to the ends of the spokes and are bound around with a strong band O,Which constitutes the belt-pulley of the machine.
The panels of the heads are finished with open slats. The circumference of the cage is also composed of suitable slat-work.
D D are rotatable carriers composed of slatted cylinders having heads at cl set in ringbearings E, fixed in the heads of the cage between spokes. The heads of the cylinders D are provided with three or four projecting pins 19.
Upon the supporting-posts B are provided adjustable arms F F, designed for trippers, by engaging with the pins 10 on the said carrier-head for giving said carriers a partial r0- tationfordumpingthecarpet therefrom. The said arm, being adj ustably attached, is set for tripping the carriers at any desirable height in the rotations of the cage. The cage may also be rotated in either direction, operating in like manner and with the same results.
Having described my invention, I claim.-
In a carpet-cleaning machine, a rotary slatted cage A, rotative slatted carriers D D, and means for intermittently rotating said carriers, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
