Patented March 21,1876.
N- PETERS, PHOTU-LITHOGRAFNER, WASMNGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN DEASEY, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
|MPROVEMENT IN SCRUBBERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,048, dated March 21, 1876; application filed July 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DEASEY, of Fall River, in the county of 'Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Scrubber, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig.2 a top view, of my improved scrubbing device.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described, in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing. A represents a scrubbingbrush of any suitable size and material, to which are firmly attached strong side pieces B, that are supported at their rear ends by one or more wheels, 0, placed at suitable distance back of the brush. The Wheel 0 is adjusted, by its shaft and screw-nut, in vertical slots a of the side pieces to higher or lower position to correspond with the sizes of the bristles in new and worn state. A handle, D, is applied to the side pieces B between brush and wheel, and may be fixed to any desired position or angle to the same, horizontal slots b of the side pieces serving to attach the swinging handle near to or farther from the brush, so as to increase or diminish the leverage on the same. The different parts may be made of wood, metal, or any other suitable material, and the wheel preferably covered with leather, rubber, or similar material, that will keep it from making noise on the surface to be scrubbed. The action of the handle on the side pieces produces, in connection with the supportin g-wheel, considerable lever-power on the brush, so as to press the same firmly on the surface to be scrubbed, and clean the same effectively. The wheel allows the easy handling of the scrubber, so that power is utilized, and the heavy and taxing scrubbing as formerly done is greatly facilitated, and rendered less fatiguing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The scrubber herein described, consisting of the brush A, side strips B, adjustable wheel 0, and pivoted adjustable handle D, arranged substantially as set forth.
JOHN DEASEY.
