EZRA NATHANIEL l'IlLL, OF XVASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF OOLUMBlVA, ASSIGITOR TO JOHN G. SLATER, OF SAME PLACE.
MEANS FOR SECURING TRAVELERS AGAINST LOSS BY ACCIDENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,872, dated January 26, 1892.
Application filed December l5, 1891. Serial No. 415,198. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, EZRA NATHANIEL IIILL, a citizen of theUnited Sta tes, residing atVashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Securing Travelers Against Ex cessive Loss by Accident; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to insurancesheets, and the object is to provide a means for securing travelers and others against loss by accident 5 and to this end the novelty consists in a sheet having certain novel peculiarities, as Will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
An incidental object of my invention is to provide in connection with a suitable sheet and coupon-spaces for its preservation and possible reading through its becoming an object of value to its possessor, thus rendering such sheet a very desirable medium for disseminating information in regard to matters of trade and the like.
It Will be observed from the foregoing that a traveler may step to a news-stand or place Where the sheets are sold, make his purchase, and have any one or more of the coupons stamped and dated, and thus become insured by the assurer issuing the sheet, and at the same time the advertisers are assured that the medium having said coupons attached will be preserved and read.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a front vieW of my improved sheet, and Fig. 2 is a detail of a portion oit the same enlarged and detached from the sheet proper.
A represents the body of the sheet, and it may consist of any number or size of sheets or pages, and they may contain any desirable and attractive reading matter. The portion B of said part A consists of an integral, though it may be detachable, coupon-space having a guarantee in the form of an accident-insurance policy and a space for the reception of a date.
The sheets A are dated as issued-that is, periodically-and the coupons are dated or stamped as sold, and of course contain a date subsequent to that upon the sheet A.
I have represented the sheet A with aseries of these coupon-spaces having date-spaces thereon formed integral therewith, and it is evident that one or more of them may form a 6o portion of the sheet-body.
XVhile I have described one means of exploiting my idea, it is evident that various modifications of the same Will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, 6 5 and such may be employed Without depart ing from the spirit of my'invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
I. The means for securing a traveler against loss by the accidental death of said traveler, which consists of a sheet provided with a date and the name of the assurer and havinga series of coupons containing the name of the assurer, a space for the name of the assured, and a date beyond which the assurer is not liable.
2. The means for securing a traveler against loss by accident or his legal heirs against loss 8o byreason of his accidentaldeath, which consists of a sheet provided with a date and the name of the assurer and a series of spaces having suitable headings, substantially as described, for the name of the assurer, the name of the 8 5 assured,a date, and an amount beyond which said loss or assurance must not exceed.
3. The means for securing travelers and others against loss by accident, which consists of a sheet containing spaces having the 9o name of the assurer and a date, substantially as described, and a series of spaces each one of which is provided With the name of the assurer and having smaller spaces for the name, date, and amount beyond which the assured may not exceed.
4. The means for' securing travelers and others against loss by accident, which consists of a sheet containing spaces for advertisiug and news matter, a series of spaces roo each one of which is provided with the name of the assurer and having smaller spaces for the name of the assured and the date and amount beyond which the assured may not exceed.
5. The means for securing travelers and others against loss by accident, which consists of a sheet containing spaces for different classes of reading matter and a series of spaces each one of Whichis provided with the name of the assurer, the amount of the assurance, a space for the naine of the assured, and a date subsequent to that upon the sheet proper and that upon the separate space immediately preceding. r 5
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
EZRA NATHANIEL HILL.
