BOTTLE.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,727, dated January 26, 1892.
Application filed June 26, 1890. Renewed March 20, 1891- Seriel No. 385,736. (No model.) Patented in England December 19, I
To aZZ 2072,0122 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTON SCHON, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of New Southgate, in the county of Middlesex, Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles or Receptacles for Containing Aerated aters or other Liquors, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 18,588, dated December 19, 1888,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a bottle having two compartments, with a stopper constructed so that the aerated liquid contained in one compartment can be withdrawn Without removing the contents of the other compartment.
Referring to the drawings,,Figure I is a front elevation of a combined bottle embody ing my invention. Fig. II is a sectional view of the same. Fig. III is a top view of the same. Fig. IV is a plan sectional view on line X X, Fig. I.
A is the bottle, with compartments 13 O, separated by the division-wall D. The division-wall is made thicker at the top or point E, and through the center of this enlarged portion is a hole F, provided with threads. 'Within the hole F at or near the bottom is placed the perforated washer G, against which presses the ball-valve II.
I is the stopper, with threaded stem J, fitting into the threaded hole F of the divisionwall I). The stopper I likewise covers the openings a and Z) of the compartments A B. Through the stem J and stopper I is a hole K, the purpose of which will be hereinafter explained.
Operation: The compartment B is filled with wine, brandy, or other spirituous fluid. The compartment C is filled and charged with soda-water or similar aerated fluid. The stopper is then placed over the openings of the compartments and held in position by the stem J. The gaseous properties of the sodawater will force the ball ll against its seat of the washer G and hold it in place, thereby preventing the contents of the compartment 0 from escaping. henever it is required to remove the aerated fluid in compartment (3 without interfering with the contents of compartment B, a small piece of wire or other piece of metal or wood is inserted into hole K and gently pressed down upon the ball II. This allows the fluid to be easily withdrawn through the perforation or hole K. By removing the stopper I the contents of both chambers can be poured out together, so as to make a mixed beverage of the contents of the two chambers.
I have in the drawings shown the two chambers of equal size; but they may be of any relative size in accordance with the quantity of the respective liquors. That portion of the stopper fitting over the openings of the respective compartments is rimmed with an elastic band to insure a tight or close fit of the same.
Although I show the bottle cast or molded with the compartments, I do not confine myself to that construction, as the same result can be obtained by forming the compartments in two separate parts and securing them together by a wire or other suitable band.
The important result sought by this invention is to enable the aerated fluid in one compartment of a bottle having two or more compartments to be drawn 01% without interfering with the fluid of the adjoining compartment.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- 1. A bottle formed with two compartments separated by a partition-wall enlarged at the top, and which is provided with a threaded hole and a perforated washer, in combination with a stopper covering both openings of the bottle and provided with a threaded stem, and
a ball-valve placed in compartment 0 and acting against the washer G of the partition D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a bottle having two compartments B C, separated by a partitionwall D, enlarged at E and provided with threaded hole F, the stopper I, covering the openings of said compartments and provided with threaded stem J, having hole K, the washer G, placed in the hole of the partition- Wall, and the ball-Valve H, placed in ooinhave hereunto set lnyhand this2d (layof May, partment C and acting against the Washer G, 1890.
substantially as and for the purpose set forth, ANTON SOHON. 3. The combination of the bottle A, with Witnesses: 5 compartments B C, division-Wall D, with hole HENRY NORMAN EVERARD ROJERS,
F, the stopper I, with stem J, having hole K, Dtmsteo' Ifouse, Jlfincing Lane, London, E. the Washer G, and the ball-valve H, all ar- 0., Broker.
ranged substantially as and for the purpose FREDERIC FAITHFUL TURNER, set forth. 101 Leadenhall Street, London, E. 0., Mer- 10 In testimony that I claim the foregoing I chant.
