Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
JANE BAIRD, or NORTH TOPEKA, KANSAS.
STRAINE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,604, dated January 26, 1892.
Application filed November 8, 1890. Serial No. 370,724. (No model.)
To Ml whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JANE BAIRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strainers; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to strainers for use in straining the juices from fruits, the water from curd in the manufacture of cheese, and for general application when it is desired to separate liquids from solid matter.
The object of the invention is to provide positive and a series of independent means of construction between the textile strainer and the ring or band, whereby in the event of one of the said fastenings giving way the other fastenings will retain and support the said strainer.
The improvement consists of a band or ring having a suspending and carrying bail and having a series of separate and independent exterior projections, and a strainer bag or sack having openings corresponding with and adapted to receive the said projections.
The improvement further consists of the novel features, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 isa perspective view of a strainer embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the ring or band detached.
The essential parts of the invention are the ring or band A, provided with retaining projections a, and a bag or sack B, of textile fabric, linen, muslin, flannel, or other suitable materials, which is fitted to the ring or band and provided with loops or button-holes to engage with the said retaining projections to support the bag or sack and secure the same to said ring or band.
The ring or band A is of metal or other material sufficiently rigid to form a firm support for the bag or sack, and the retaining projections a may be of suitable formation to effect the desired result- 2 As shown, they are headed studs and project laterally from the rim. These projections a are provided in sufficient number to securely support the bag or sack and are disposed about the ring or band at proper distances apart. The ears 0 are secured to the ring or band in the usual manner and receive the ends of the wire bail D, which is provided at its middle with the loop (Z, which gives stability to the bail and affords a means for conveniently suspending the strainer. The ring or band is of proper depth and is closed at its upper end by the close-fitting cover E.
The bag or sack B is provided with loops 6 at its upper end, which engage with the retaining projections a, thereby forming a positive means of attachment between the bag and the ring. The bag is of such a size as to be fitted over the ring, so as to form a close joint between it and the said ring to prevent the spilling of the substance to be strained when pouring it in the strainer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A strainer composed of a band or ring having a suspending and carrying bail and having a series of separate and independent exterior projections, and a strainer bag or sack having openings corresponding with and adapted to receive the said projections, whereby a positive means of construction is formed between the said sack and the band, substantially as set forth.
2. The hereinbefore-specified strainer, composed of a band or ring having headed studs projected laterally from the exterior side thereof between the top and the bottom edges, a suspending and carrying bail attached to the said band and having a loop d, a closefitting cover to close the upper end of the said band, and a strainer-sack having loops corresponding with and adapted to be fitted over the said studs and form a positive means of connection between the sack and the band, substantially as and forthe purpose described.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JANE BAllRD.
