SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,332, dated January 19, 1892.

Be it known that I, FEANoIs W. CAEPEN-4 TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iarrison, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented an Improved Toy Fire-Escape, of which the following is a specification.

Toy nre-engines have-been made for the amusement of children, and the present toy is especially adapted for the amusement of children in connection with toy fire-engines.

In my toy I provide a representation ot' the front of a building and a ladder connected with the saine, and a toy fireman that can be drawn up the latter and made to remove toy figures standing upon balconies of the build ing and lower the same to the ground. Hence this toy is well adapted to the amusement of children.

In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 afront view, representingthe said toy; and Fig. 3 is a separate plan view of the toy fireman.

The base A is adapted to represent the sidewalk, and the vertical board B the front of a building, and such vertical board may be elaborated more or less to show windows, balconies, and a cornice. I have represented windows at C and balconies at D. A ladder E is removably connected at the top end to i the front of the building, and the lower end rests upon and may be attached to the base A, and in the front of the building above the ladder I provide a pulley F, over which the cord G passes to a figure H, which preferably represents a Iireman 'with his two arms extended at 3 4t, and there are guides 5 and 6 projecting from the toy figure and passing at the sides and preferably across the back of the ladder, so that this toy figure can be drawn up with more or less rapidity by the cord G, and it passes over the toy ladder to represent the reman running up such ladder. This gure may be moved by any suitable device.

I provide toy figures K, each of which isprovided with a base 7 for supporting the same in order that the toy gure may be set upon either of the balconies in the desired position, and it is preferable to construct these figures with the arms extended and the hands clasped in an imploring attitude., This Serial No. 386,920. enables those that play with the toy to place the iigures upon the balcony in such a position that as the toy fireman is of his arms will pass into the loop formed by the extended arms of the toy ligure, so as to lift the toy figure oft the balcony and suspend the same while the toy fireman and the figure are lowered to the ground, thereby affording amusement to those playingI with the toy.

The ladder may be made in one or two pieces, and when in two pieces the packing is facilitated and the representation of the front of the building may also be made in two pieces, hinged or otherwise connected together, so as to fold, and the front of the building is separable from the base A in order that the parts may be packed in a small compass. Any suitable projecting hooking device can be made use of in place of the arm or arms ot' thetoy figure.

I claim as my inventionl. The combination, in atoy, of an inclined ladder, a support for the same, a gure having a base upon which it can stand, and guides by which the figure is held in its proper n0- sition to the ladder, and a pulley7 and crd for drawing up the figure, substantially as specified.

2. The combination, in a toy, with an inclined ladder and a support for the same, of a movable Figure, a support in an elevated position therefor, a figure having an extended arm, a base forming a guide by which the ligure is kept in its proper position to the ladder, and a cord and pulley for drawing one figure up the ladder and lifting the other Iigure by the extended arm, substantially as specified.
