UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRITZ MINK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE KEY- STONE WATCH OASE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-BOW FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,278, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed August 8, 1891, gerial No. 402,092. (No model.)
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRITZ MINK, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Watch-Bow Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to watchbow fasteners; and it consists of certain improvements which are fully set forth in the following specification and are shown in the accompanyin g drawings, which form a part thereof.
It is the object of my invention to fasten the watch-b0ws to the pendant of a watchcase in a convenient and efficient manner.
In carrying out my invention I employ ears or arms projecting from the sides of the pendant, upon which are arranged collars or sleeves free to rotate upon them. The ends of the bow are swiveled upon these collars or sleeves, and suitable locking devices are employed to lock the collars and ends of the bow upon the arms or cars. The arms or ears may be made integral with the pendant or separate therefrom and suitably connected with it.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a watch-case pendant and bow embodying my invention; and Figs. 2, 3, and I are similar views of the same, illustrating modifications in the manner of locking the collars and ends of the bow upon the arms.
A is the watch-case pendant, carrying the projecting arms or ears B, which may be made integral with the metal of the pendant, as is shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4, or separate therefrom, as shown in Fig. 3.
C is the bow,having its ends provided with j ournal-holes c.
D are sleeves or collars encircling the arms or cars B and free to rotate thereon. The ends of the bow O are swiveled upon these collars or sleeves D and are free to rotate thereon. By employing these collars or sleeves D the bow is able to rotate freely and the wear between the parts is diminished, and when the parts become worn the sleeves D may be renewed and replaced by others.
The ends of the bow may be looked upon the sleeves or collars and arms in a variety of ways, and in the drawings I have shown several modifications in the construction of the means for accomplishing this. In the construction shown in Fig.1 the sleeves or collars are formed tapered inwardly, thus preventing the ends of the bow passing from them, and the sleeves or collars are looked upon the arms by upsetting the extremities of the arms, as shown at. b. In Fig. 2 are shown locking-nuts E, screwed upon the ends of the arms. In Fig. 3 pins F are shown 'in serted through the arms, and in Fig. 4. the arms are shown upset, the upset portions projecting beyond the sleeves or collars D over the endsof the bow.
The particular manner of fastening the sleeves or collars and the ends of the bow upon the arms isimmaterial to my invention, the essential feature of which is the sleeve upon which the end of the bow is swiveled.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. I11 a Watch-bow fastener, the combination of a watch-case pendant carrying projecting arms or ears, sleeves or collars carried by said arms or ears and free to rotate thereon, a bow having its ends swiveled upon said sleeves or collars and free to rotate thereon, and means to lock said sleeves or collars and bow ends against lateral movement upon the arms or ends of the pendant.
2. In a watch-bow fastener, the combination of a watch-case pendant carrying projecting arms or cars, sleeves or collars carried by said arms or ears and free to rotate thereon and having their surfaces tapered inwardly, a bow having its ends swiveled upon said sleeves or collars and free to rotate thereon, and means to lock said sleeves or collars against lateral movement upon the arms or lateral movement, and a watch-bow having its ends swiveled upon said sleeves or collars. 4. In awateh-bow fastener, the combination, with the pendant arms or ears I of the how having apertures upon its ends, the intermediate rotary collars or sleeves D between the arms B and the apertures of the bow ends, and means to fasten the collars or sleeves and bow ends against lateral movement from the arms or ears of the pendant.
In testimony of which invention 1 have hereunto set my hand.
FRITZ MINK. \Vitnesses: II. M. KAIN,
JOSEPH M. CANFIELD.
