MUSICAL DECANTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,795, dated December 22, 1891.

Application filed June 9, 1891.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED SUEUR, a citizen ofSwitzerland, and a resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Musical Decanters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in [O that class of decanters that are provided with a concave bottom adapted to receive a musicbox, which begins to play automatically when the decanter is raised; and the object of my invention is to facilitate applying musicboxes in said recess and to reduce the liability of breaking the decanter while applying the box.

The invention consists in a decanter provided with a concave bottom having outwardly-projecting lugs made integral therewith, upon which the bottom plate of the music-box can be fasten ed by means of screws or otherwise.

The invention also consists in the construc- 2 5 tion and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of my improved decanter, parts 0 being broken out and others being in section. Fig. 2 is a bottom View of the same; and Fig. 3 is part of a bottom view, showing a slight modification.

The decanter A, made of glass, porcelain, or other material, of any desired style or shape, is provided with a concave bottom B of the usual shape and size, as is usually pro- 0 vided in musical decanters. From the sides of said concave bottom, and at or near the bottom edge of the same, three lugs C, made integral with the material of the decanter, project, each one provided with a screw-hole.

The board is then shoved completely into the hollow of the concave bottom, and when above all three lugs C is shifted laterally, so that the notch E will not coincide with any of the lugs, as shown in Fig. 2. The board D is temporarily held by any suitable device against the uppersides of thelugs, and screws F are passed through the apertures in the 6clugs C and screwed into the board D for the purpose of holding the same firmly and securely on the lugs. In place of using screws F, metal clips G, Fig. 3, may be passed across the lugs G and their ends fastened by nails or screws to the under side of the board D.

The musical decanters made heretofore were supported by legs screwed into and projecting from the wooden plate D, and thus had no firm and secure support. To fasten the wooden plate, holes were bored laterally in the side of the concave bottom, pointed clips passed into the said holes, and the clips were fastened under the board. It very frequently happened that the workmen bored the holes completely through the sides of the recess, thus destroying the value of the decanter, as itcould no longer be used for holding liquid. Furthermore, the decanter was not firm and secure when placed on the table, whereas with my improved construction the 8 5 decanter rests directly on its base and there is suflicient space between the under side of the board B and the bottom edge of the decanter for the winding-key H, as shown.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1.
