The object of my invention is to produce an invoice-blankV by which duplicate copies of so much of'an invoice as it is desirable to duplicate may be made.
In shipping goods from one commercial house to another-as, for instance, from a manufacturer to a large wholesale pu`r' Chaser-the purchaser usually requires two separate invoices. One of them should bein the nature of abill setting forth the amount of goods shipped and their price. The purpose of thisis to advisethe purchaser of the shipment and the amount charged against him on the order. The other invoice or duplicate invoice (althoughit is customary in practice t mark each of the invoices original or duplicate is provided, in order that the purchaser may have a checking-slip for the receiving-clerk- On this duplicate it is desirable that no indication should be given of the price paid for the goods. The labor of preparing duplicate invoices is in a large business considerable. By my invention I make one writing produce a required number of duplicate invoices, only one of which contains the price paid for the goods, and thereby effect a great saving of time and labor.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l illustrates a pair of invoices prepared according to my. invention, and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 illustrate different views of three sheets similarly prepared.
Referring 1o the letters on-the drawings,`A indicates an original invoice, or invoice adapted to show the price paid for goods. It may vbe made of paper and have the usual printingsuch, for instance, as the date and place, name of the buyer, and name of the seller.
B indicates a .duplicate invoice which is shorter than the original, but is long enough to contain all matter descriptive of the or,- der-such, for instance, as the name of the buyer andthe amont and quality of the goods, as illustrated in the drawings. These invoices are united at one end, where they may be folded or perforated, as illustrated at C in the drawings, for convenience of separation, or they may be bound together in a book.
In use the sheetsA B, &c., are laidtogether, the one above the other, to constitute one co mplete in Voice-blank. A statement or invoice is then written upon the top or largest sheet. At the same time provision is made for duplicating part ot' the statement on the smaller sheet or sheets lying underneath. For inf stance, if the invoice is made out on a typewriter, the duplicate can be copied by the use of carbon-paper coextensive with sheet B, or copying-paper may be used when the order is Written in ink, or any suitable means of duplication may be employed.
By the use of blanks of this kind it is not necessary to give attention to writing but the one order, because so much of the order is duplicated on the blank B as it is desirable for that blank to contain and nothing more.
It' a greater number of the shorter blanks is desired to be made at the saine time with the invoice, another blank, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of vthe drawings, may be united to the end of the blank B and folded underneath and the process of duplication repeated with respect to the third as with the second invoice. desirable, be duplicated in like manner.
I am aware that it is old to arrange together sheets of the same size to be laid one upon the other by folding or otherwise for the purpose of duplicating a writing, and I do not claim the same.
Vhat I claim is- An invoice-blank consisting of the combination of a plurality of sheets, one of which is large enough to contain a full statement of goods and prices, and the remainder being ot' smaller dimensions, to be placed underneath the larger sheet, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
I n testimony of all which I have hereunto The larger invoice may of course, it'-
