Description

(No Model.)
J. BONNER. TOP SETTING FOR JEWELRY.
Patented Dec. 8, 1891.
W T N W N Julius 301ml? A TTOHNE Y3 NITE STATES JULIUS BONNER, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
TOP SETTING FOR JEWELRY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,810, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed May 14:, 1891. Serial No. 392,746. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS BONNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New ork, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Top Setting for Jewelry, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is a top setting for jewelry whichcan be readily interchanged from one article to another.
The peculiar and novel construction of my top setting is pointed out in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a section of my top setting as applied to a finger-ring, the line 10 10, Fig. indicating the plane of section. Fig. 2 is a section of the same in the plane m as, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detached section of the top setting. Fig. 4 is a section of the socket for receiving the top setting as applied to a shirt-stud, the plane of section being indicated by the line Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a section in plane .2 .2, Fig. 4.
In the drawings, the letter A designates a top setting, which is formed with an internal screw-thread a and with a shoulder 11 above its inner edges. The article of jewelry to which this top setting is to be attached is provided with a tubular shank g, which is surrounded by a rim 0, leaving a circular channel d surrounding the tubular shank g. By referring to Figs. 1 and 4 it will be seen that the height of the rim 0 is less than that of the tubular shank g, and this tubular shank is provided with a screw-thread to engage the internal screw-thread a of the top setting. WVhen the top setting A is screwed on the tubular shank g, that portion of the same which extends beyond the shoulder b enters the circular channel d, and the shoulder 19 finally bears upon the edge of the rim 0, so that when the top setting is screwed home a finished appearance is given to the article to which the top setting has been attached.
From this description it will be readily understood thatmy invention is applicable to various articles of jewelry-such, for instance, as fingem'ingsand shirt-studs.
that I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a top setting for jewelry, said top setting being provided with aninternal screw-thread CL and with a shoulder b above its bottom edge, of a socket com-- posed of a tubular shank g, provided with an external screw-thread, and with a rim 0, surrounding the tubular shank and fitting the top setting below its shoulder b, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two-subscribing witnesses.
JULIUS BONNER.
