. MARBLE-SHOOTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,407, dated December 1, 1891.
Application filed April 22, 1891. Serial No. 389,958. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7 Be it known that we, CHARLES E. WILKIN- SON and GUsTAv O. WENDEL,both of Broken Bow, in the county of Custer and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Marble-Shooter, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved marble-shooter. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 5 is a perspective view. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the sheet-metal blank from which the shooter is formed, and Fig. 7 is a perspective of the plate from which the marble-propelling spring is formed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The 'object of our invention is to provide a simple and efficient implement for projecting marbles in carrying on the various games played with marbles.
Our invention consists in a box provided with a marble-propelling spring furnished with a spring-clasp for holding a marble, and a strap and cup for receiving the end of the thumb.
The body Aof the shooter consists of a rectangular metallic box having an approximately circular opening a in the front thereof, a circular opening I) in one end, and an oblong opening 0 in the opposite end. The side of the box opposite that in which is the opening a is furnished with a semicircular cup (1 for receiving the end of the thumb, and a U- shaped metallic strap e for surrounding the ball of the thumb, the said strap 6 being made adj ustable by means of the slot bolt-holes f in the strap, and a button g, projecting from the side of the box.
In the sides of the box, near the front thereof and near the end having the circular opening b, are formed slots hfor receivingthe lugs 7 of the marble-propelling spring B. The said spring is of sufficient width to cover the opening a in the front of the box A, and
its free end is reduced in width and projects through the opening 0 in the end of the box and below the end of the box, forminga trig ger j for operating the shooter.
In the propelling-spring B are inserted V- shaped spring-wire loops is, arranged around a circle and curved inwardly, the said loops which forms the back of the box, the part E,
which forms the end of the box, the bottom of the semicircular oupd, and the lower portion of the front of the box, the part F, which forms the upper portion of the front of the box, the arm G, which forms the side of the semicircular cup, and the perforated arm H, which forms the strap 6.
The blank from which the spring is formed is shown in Fig. 7, the spring being made of spring sheet metal cut so as to form the lugs iand a narrow portion m, which, when the plate is looped or returned upon itself, forms the trigger-j.
Although we prefer to make the shooter of sheet metal in the manner described, we may find it more economical and satisfactory to construct the implement from metal by the process of casting. Therefore we do not limit or confine'ourselves to the exact construction herein shown and described.
It is obvious that, if desired,a sight may be taken across the casing to insure accuracyin shooting.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by'Letters Patent- 1. A marbleshooter adapted -to be affixed to the players thumb, comprising a casing or body portion having thumb-receiver at its rear side, a Vertically-extending spring secured at its upper end to the upper portion of the forward side of the casing, the lower end of said spring forming a finger-piece or trigger to retract the spring, and a marble-holder on the outer side of the spring, substantially as shown and described.
the body A, provided with the openings at b c and slots h, the spring B,furnished with the trigger j, the spring-loops is, projecting from 15 the'spring B, the cup (1, formed on the body A, and the adjustable strap 6, substantially as described.
