SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,279, dated December 1, 1891. Application filed April 27, 1891. Serial No. 390,561. (No model.)
To all whom it hwy concern:
Be it known that I, DONALD FRAsER,a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of \rVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wiring Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to Wiring devices; and it consists in certain peculiar and nov 1 features of construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional view of my device, the section being taken on line 1 l of the succeeding figure; and Fig. 2 shows a side elevation of the same, partly in section, for the purpose of better illustration.
Referring by letter to the drawings, I show the frame of my device preferably composed of two sections A B and extending inwardly from the upper ends of these sections, and at right angles thereto are arms 0 D, that constitute when placed together, as shown in Fig. 2, the upper portion of the frame, and struck up vertically from the meeting edges of these arms are projections E, (shown in full and dotted lines,) that are preferably wedgeshaped and receive a handle F, this peculiar shape of the projections insuring a tight fit of said handle.
The lower end of each of the sections A B is cut out to form recesses G for the reception of a broken handle or other article H to be wired,and the sides of said sections at a suitable distance from the top thereof are each provided with an opening that serves for the reception of a bolt I, that connects said sections, and to prevent the bolt from twisting when secured in position I preferably make the opening in the section A polygonal in contour to receive a correspondingly-shaped portion of said bolt. The screw -threaded or other end of said bolt I engages the opening in the section B and projects a suitable distance beyond the same for the reception of a set-nut K. The greatest strain upon the sections A B coming at the point a, I preferably enlarge the same somewhat and slightly increase the thickness. The bolt Iforms aboaring for a roll orspool J, wound with wire or other suitable material, this spool being preferably in such close contact with the sections A B as to yield slowly to draw upon. the wire, and thereby insure tight wrapping of the latter around the article to be treated. Should it be found desirable at anytime to increase or diminish the tension of the Wire, all that is necessary to accomplish this result is to adjust the set-nut K.
In practice the handle or other article to be wired has bored therethrough an opening designed to receive the outer end of the Wire upon the spool J, said end of the wire being passed entirely through the opening in the article and bent over or otherwise suitably secured to prevent the same from slipping out. The article, as above described, is then placed in engagement with the recesses G in the frame-seetions Aand B and the operator catches hold of the handle F and revolves the device, thereby rotating the spool J and causing the wire upon the same to be unwound and wrapped around said article, this operation being continued until the required length has been wired,when the wire is cut and passed -When the Wrapping material upon the spool J has been exhausted, the bolt I is removed and another spool substituted in place of the exhausted one in the manner above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a frame composed of two sections provided with recesses at the lower ends thereof, arms extending inwardly from the upper ends of the sections, projections struck up vertically from the meeting edges of said arms, a handle fitted on said projections, a bolt or rod connecting said sections, and a roll or spool for wrapping material suitably arranged upon the bolt or rod, substantially as set forth.
