UNITED STATES PATENT C ErcE'.
FREDERICK VORNBROCK, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO BARDIVELL, ANDERSON 85 00., OF SAME PLACE.
CARD-TABLE.-
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,654, dated November 24, 1891.
Application filed August 24, 1891. Serial No. 403.502. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK VORNBROOK, of Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Tables, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved card-table; Fig. 2, a bottom plan view enlarged, the legs being shown in transverse section Fig. 3,a Vertical longitudinal section taken through one of the drawers, and Fig.4 a vertical transverse section of the same.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
My invention relates to a table which is especially adapted for use in playing cards and similar games; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler,
cheaper, and more effective device of this character than is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation.
In the drawings, A represents the table considered as awhole, which comprises an approximately-rectangular top B, supported at the corners by legs C, said legs being connected by a brace-plate f. (Shown in Fig. 1.) Each corner of the top is extended slightly at h.
Projecting from the center of the table toward each corner and secured thereto by screws 9 there is a metallic plate D, which is bent vertically downward at d and broadened at its outer or free end. This broadened portion 1; has its longitudinal edges turned vertically upward at m,-as shown in Fig. 4, and forms a portion of a drawer way or slide. Lugs 29 project vertically from the broadened portion and are secured by screws q to the table bottom. In alignment with the edges or flanges m of the plate D two guide-strips r are secured to the under side of the top B. The drawers H are of a size suitable to slide between the flanges m, the side boards tof said drawers being elongated beyond the body '0 thereof and respectively passing on opposite sides of the reduced portion (Z of the plate D. The front w projects downward in position to engage the front edge of the plate D at m and forms a stop to prevent the drawer beingforced too far inward. Said front is provided with a knob y and may be ornamented in any desired manner. The legs 0 are secured to the forward end of the plate D by lag-screws .2.
It will be seen that the table as thus arranged is cheap in construction, the metallic plates D supporting the top and permitting the passage of the drawers under said top at the corners without interfering with the legs. Moreover, by removing the drawers the legs can readily be detached and separated from the top for shipping or packing. I do not, however, confine myself to any particular form of top B, as the same may be circular, oval, or of any other desired shape. The drawers may also be arranged at the sides or ends, instead of-running from the corners toward the center, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the remaining object of which is to provide means for detachably securing the legs to the top without interfering with the drawer ways or runs.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is 1. In a table, a plate secured to the under side of the top thereof, a portion of said plate being bent to form a drawer-way, in combina tion with a leg detachably secured to said plate below said way, substantially as described.
2. In a table, a top, in combination with a metallic plate secured to the lower face thereof and forming a drawer-way and a leg detachably secured to said plate, substantially as described.
3. In a table, the combination of a top, a drawer fitted to slide thereon, a plate secured to the lower face of said top and projecting under said drawer, and a leg detachably secured tosaid plate, substantially as described.
I. In a card-table,a top, in combination with metallic plates secured to the under side of said top, said plates being bent vertically downward and having their outer ends broadened to form drawer-ways and secured at the corners of saidtable, and legs detachably secured to the broadened portions of said plates, substantially as set forth.
5. A table provided with an approximatelyrectangular top, a metallic plate secured at the center of said top on its under face and projecting toward the corner thereof, the outer end of said plate being broadened and bent vertically and horizontally to form a drawer-way, and a drawer fitted to slide in said way, substantially as described.
6. In a table, the top B, in combination with the plates D, secured thereto and provided with flanges m, the drawers II, fitted to slide on said plate, and the legs 0, detachably secured to saidplate, all being arranged substantially as described.
7. In a table, the top B, in combination with the curved metallic plates D, secured thereto and projecting from the center to the corners thereof, the flanges 771 on said plate, the guidebars '1, secured to said top, the drawers H, fitted to slide on said plates, and the legs 0, de-
tachably secured to said plates, substantially as described.
8. In a table, a rectangular top, in combination with metallic plates secured at the center thereof and respectively projecting toward the corners, said plates being bent vertically and horizontally at their outer ends to form drawer-ways, guideflanges on said plates, guide-bars on said top, drawers fittedto slide on said plates between said bars, and legs detachably secured to the outer ends of said plates, all being arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
9. In a table, an approximately-rcctangular top, in combination with metallic drawer-ways arranged at the corners thereof in line toward the center, legs detachably secured to said Way, and drawers fitted to slide in said Ways above said legs, substantially as described.
FREDERICK VORNBROOK.
