NATHANIEL CRANK, OF IjIILL CITY, KANSAS.
VAPOR BATHl'Ne APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,490, dated November 1'7, 1891. Application iiled April 30, 1891. Serial No. 391,170. (No model.)
To all 10]?,0711/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL CRANK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at I-Iill City, in the county of Graham and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor Bathing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in vapor-baths.
rIhe object of the invention is to provide a portable and convenient apparatus for taking either vapor or medicinal baths; and it consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view showing the apparatus as it appears in use. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View, and Fig. 3 is a. sectional view on the line .fr x of Fig. l.
A refers to the base, which has a closed or tight bottoxna, and above the same a bottom .13, provided circumferentially with perforations or apertures Z9 and a large aperture B', adapted to receive a vessel C. The side walls a of the base A have suitably secured thereto strips c, between which and the sides the lower edges of the hinged tops lie to make a tight joint. v
Upon the bottom board B is placed a seat D, which is made up of two parts which slide upon each other, so that said seat can be vertically adjusted and maintained in the position it may be placed by a pin d. Adjacent to the seat is placed a foot-rest E.
The hinged tops F and F are constructed, as shown, and have meeting edges which are provided with strips f2, as shown in Fig. 1. These hinged tops have covers G and G hinged thereto, the meeting edges of which are recessed to present a circular openingl to fit around the neck of the user, said opening beingipadded to prevent the escape of steam. The cover G is also provided with an aperture g, through which passes an adjustable bar H, the outer end of which carriesan inhaler h, which is connected to the vessel C by a flexible tube.
I refers to a boiler or steam generator, which is connected to a rigid pipe or tube 't by t-he hose I. The tube t' passes loosely into an aperture in the lower portion of the vessel C, so that the steam after entering said ves-l sel can pass out of the same into the lower compartment and through the perforations in the board Bl to the bath-chamber. The compartment or chamber beneath the bottom board B is perfectly tight, except as to the perforations h, and it is obvious that a heating means may be placed under the base A and steam thus generated.
The vessel C is especially adapted to receive medicinal herbs, the fumes therefrom by the means herein shown being adapted to be inhaled by the patient.
The sides of the hinged top F are provided with bails or loops 7c 7c, which support standards K, the upper ends of which are connected by a cross-bar K upon which is hung a re ceptacle L. This receptacle is connected to a spraying-nozzle mf, and when the device is closed liquid may be applied to the operators head, and when the hinged tops are thrown back a shower or spray bath can be given to the body.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A bathing appliance constructed substantiall y as shown and provided with a base A, tops F and F', hinged thereto and adapted to close upon each other, said hinged tops having covers G and G', the meeting edges of which are recessed to present an opening when brought together, together with means for conveying vapor to the interior of the apparatus, substantially as set forth.
2. In a bathing apparatus, the combination of the baseA, having a metallic bottom a and a supplemental bottom B of non-conducting 'material raised walls a', extendin y above the roo o e v bottom B, a Steam-supply pipe entering the herbs are placed and which is Connected to compartment formed between thewails A :md :in inhaler 7L by :L flexible tube, for the pim B, sections F and F', hinged to the base, said pose set forth.
Sections having meeting strips j"2 and hinged In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 5 covers G and G', the meeting edges of said presence of nwo Witnesses.
covers being recessed t0 present an opening TA f1 A j i T f to which L padding is applied, together with A Al HAB IEL @RAB I" :L vessel C, adapted to restupon the bottoni a, \Vitnesses:
said Vessel having a supplemental bottom to M. BLODGETT,
:o present an upper compartiment Within which F: D. TURCK.
