Description

(No Model.) I
E. PETERSON.
DAMPER FOR PIANO FOBTBS. No. 463,449. Patented Nov. 17,1891.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
64W Wag-Mm;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMANUEL PETERSON, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DAMPER FOR PlANO-FORTES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,449, dated November 17, 1891.
Application filed May 26, 1891.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL PETERSON, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Boston, in the county of Sufli'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dampers for Piano-Fortes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dampers forpianofortes; and it consists in means for attaching the damper to the supporting-lever.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2, and 3 are respectively elevations of the apparatus from three different sides.
In the drawings, A represents the supporting-lever for the damper terminating in a wire B, but which forms no part of my invention.
To the end of wire B the damper is attached by the following device: O is a damper of felt. D is the damper-head upon which it is carried, having in its posterior surface two diagonal slots E and F. G is a strip of springbrassbent into a U shape, with the ends of the tips of the two arms bent at an angle. Each of the arms is provided with an opening through which wire B passes, the wire being fastened. by a set-screw H. The tips of spring G are shaped to enter the slots E and' F, andin practice the two arms of the spring are bent together and sprung into the slots and are held therein by their own resiliency.
Serial No. 394,200. (No model.)
The joint thus made is very simple and cheap, while at the same time the head is held more firmly than by any other method heretofore employed.
As these devices are used in great numbers, it is a matter of importance to secure a construction at once inexpensive and effective.
hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination, with a damper and a supporting-lever, of an intermediate connecting-piece attached to the said lever and sprung into a slot in the damper-head, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a damper and a supporting-lever, of an intermediate connection consisting of a spring shaped as described, having its two ends sprung into diagonal slots in the damper-head and suitably connected to the lever.
3. The combination, with a damper having diagonal slots in its head, of a supporting-lever and bent spring G, having two springarms entering slots in the head of the damper, and provided with openings through which passes wire B, held by screw H.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand.
EMANUEL PETERSON.
