IVILLIAM H. ATKINSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEWT YORK, ASSIGNOR TO D. M. SOMERS, J. L. SOMERS, G. A. SOMERS, XV. II. ATKINSON, AND E. E.
SOMERS, ALL OF SAME PLACE.
GAME-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 463,378, dated November 17, 1891. i Application filed September 2O l 1890. Seria-l No. 365,690. (No model.)
.To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ATKINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Counters, fully described and represented in the following speciiication and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This invention relates to game-counters, its object being to provide a simple, cheap, and convenient counter which shall present an attractive appearance, and at the same time present a large extent of surface for advertising purposes.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of a game-counter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a reverse plan orbottom view of the same. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section. Fig. fi is a plan of the body with the cap removed. Fig. 5 is a central vertical section of a modification.
Referring to Figs. l to 4, A is the body of the counter, provided with a series of figures, shown as running from O to 9 and arranged in a circle upon the top of the body. Upon the body rotates a cap B, provided with an opening 1, through which a single figure on the body may be seen, the different figures being brought into view successively as the cap is rotated upon the body.
The body A, as shown in Figs. 2 to i, is formed of two pieces of sheet metal, one piece 2, which forms the main part of the body,be ing struck up and the figures placed upon its upper face. Another piece of sheet metal 3 closes the recess in the lower part of the body,
being preferably flanged about the lower circular edge of the body 2, the lower surface of the piece 3 forming the advertising surface, as shown in Fig. 2.
The cap B consists of a single piece of sheet Inetal having the plane surface 4i, which forms the Inain part of the cap, and is provided with the opening l, previously described, and is.
preferably provided with a iiange 5, extending downward over the body, although this iiange may be omitted, if desired. The cap B is secured upon the body to rotate thereon, preferably by means of a rivet 6.
It will be seen that the construction is very simple and Inay be Inanufactured at a very slight cost, while forming a convenient and desirable counter, and affording space for advertising purposes.
The cost of the counter may be further lessened by forming it in two parts, as shown iu Fig. 5, the piece 3 of Fig. 3 being omitted, so that the body is open at its lower end, and the inner side of the body-piece 2 forms the advertising surface.
That I claim isl. In a game-counter, the combination of the fiat piece of metal 2, struck up at the edge to form a circular rim and bearing the counterfigures on its flat face, and a sheet-metal cap B, loosely riveted on the body and having an opening which registers with the figures successively as the cap is rotated, substantially as described.
2. A game-counter consisting of the body A, formed of the fiat piece of sheet metal 2, struck up at the edge to form a circular rim, and bearing the counter figures on its fiat face, and a piece of sheet metal 3, fianged on the edge of the body and forming an advertisingsurface, and the sheet-metal cap B, loosely riveted on the body and having an opening' l, which registers with the figures success ively as the cap is rotated, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto setmy hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VILLIAM II. ATKINSON.
