L. ANDERSON.
HAME
Patented Nov. 1'7, 1891.
i IIIIIIIIIIIIHJIIHIIIlllllll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEE ANDERSON, OF PARIS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR- OF ONE-THIRD TO THOMAS BROAD AND JOHN MARTIN, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
HAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 463,223, dated November 17, 1891.
' A Application filed March 2, 1891. Serial No. 388,380. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEE ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip- 1ion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to hames; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a hame of simple and inexpensive construction that has certain improvements and advantages over hames now in use, as will appear from the specification and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side view of a hame embodying my invention, partlybroken away; Fig. 2, a detail View of the casting C; Fig. 3, a detail View of the loop D.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, A designates my improved. hame, which by preference is constructed of wood, and is bound upon its upper and lower ends and one side with a metallic plate a of a width somewhat narrower than the width of the hame. At the lower end of the hame the plate a is bent to form an eye a, in which is fitted a link a for the reception of the lower fastener of the hame.
To readily permit of the hames being made adjustable to fit differentsized collars and to do away With loops, staples, orrings now usually employed for that purpose, I employ the following novel means:
O designates a casting, consisting of a tongue 0 and a ring or staple 0 made integral therewith and extending at an angle therefrom, which staple is adapted'to embrace the hame, as shown, and carries the upper fastener for the hames. The tongue 0 is provided at its central lower part with a pin 0 which is designed to enter one of a series of openings 0 formed in the plate a, and to prevent side play of the tongue 0' it is provided along its edges with depending flanges G which engage each side of the plate a.
The letter D designates a loop seated in a recess D, formed in the hame, and confined thereinby the plate a, and, as will be noticed, said loop is provided at one end with a reduced semicircular portion D in which is confined the terret or rein-ring D To permit of the tongue 0 being held in its adjusted position, I rivetor otherwise secure thereto a leather strap E, which passes between the tongue and loop D. 7
To alter the size of the hames to accommodate them to collars of different sizes, by withdrawing the strap E from between the loop and tongue the tongue may be raised or lowered and the pin 0 made to engage one of the openings 0", when by replacing the strap between the tongue and loop the staple C will be held in its adjusted position.
I do not desire to confine myself to the precise construction herein shown and described, as many minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. The combination, with the hame provided along its edge with a plate, of a loop seated in a recess in the hame carrying the terret or rein-ring, and the tongue provided with a loop encircling the hame, passing through said loop and confined therein by a strap secured to the tongue, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the hame provided along its edge with aperforated metallic plate a, of a loop seated in a recess formed in the hame carrying the terret or rein-ring, and the tongue provided with a loop encircling the hame, passing through said loop and confined therein by a strap secured to the tongue, the pin 0 011 the tongue adapted to engage one of the perforations in the plate a, forthe purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEE ANDERSON.
