HENRY HOCHREUTENER, OF NEXV YORK, NYY.
TAMBOURFRME FOR EMBROlDERlNG-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 462,486, dated 'ovember 3,189.1.
.implication tiled July 29, 1891- .to all whom, t may concern.-
le it known that i, HENRY HOCHREUTENER, citizen of theUnited States, residing atNew York city; in the county ot' N ew York, and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and usefui Improvements in Embroidering- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the well-known Swisseln hroideririg-machines; and the object of my invention is to provide frames for holding the'pieces of fabriein the tambour-frame of the embroidering-machinc while the same are being embroidered.
The invention consists in the combination, with the usual tambour-frame of a Swiss emb\'oidering-rnacl1ine, of frames fitting in the openings of the tan1bour-frarneand composed of top and bottom bars, metal pieces secured to the bottom edges of the upper bars and provided on their ends with plugs7 slotted tubes having their lower ends inserted in apertures in the bottom bars, the said plugs on the metal pieces being inserted in the upper ends of said tubes, and fiat pressenbars fit'- tipng in the slots of the tubes and provided at their upper ends with spurs adapted to pass into the notches of the plugs.
' The invention also consists in theeonstruction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents 'a tace'view of the tambour-frame of an embroidering-Inachine provided with my improved fabric-holder. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail elevatio'n of the fabric-holder. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail longitudinal sectional View on the line 4 4 of Fig, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail View of the fastening-clip.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a tambour-frame of a Swiss embroidering-machinc, which frame isto be suspended in the usual manner. Into the openings of said tambour-frame A the barsB are placed, which are united at suitableintervals by vertical cross-pieces C. The bottom bars a of each section of the tainbour-fra1ne are provided with a'shoulder o. for holding the Serial No. 401,049, (No model.)
bottom rails li, and said bottom rails of each section are also provided with the clips or'buttous D for holding said bottom rails B in place. 'lhe upper rails B are provided near each end with a clip E, which is attached in such a manner that when the rails B B are in place said' clips project over the face ofthe upper bars of the tambour-frame, said clips being each provided with a T- shaped notch E in the upper edge, said notches serving to receive a screw F, projecting from a'plate F', fastened on the faces of the upper bars of the tambour-frame, and on which screws the winged nuts F2 are screwed. By drawing up said nuts the bars B B can easily 'ne held and fastened in the tambour-frame.
To the under surface of each upper bar B a series of short metal pieces G are secured end to end, aud' from each end of each piece G a cylindrical plug II' projects downward and is provided at its lower end with a notch or cit-set li and on the front with a feather Il?. Directly below said plug H cylindrical holes J are formed in the upper edge of the bottom bar ll, and into' said holes the lower ends of tubes K are placed. Each tube K is provided in its front with a longitudinal "slot L, adapted to receive al presser-bar M, consisting of a dat strip of metal having its lower end bent outward and having its upper end notched to form a spur M', adapted to pass into a notch Il of a `corresponding plug H, said presser-bars M being each provided with a covering N of fabric, rubber, cord, or other suitable material. The plugs H pass into the upper ends of the tubes K, the feathers Il2 passing into the upper ends of the tubes I( and preventing them from turning'. Atthe center of each metal piece G a clip O is attached to the front of the upper bar B, and is provided on its lower slightlycurved part with a series of upwardly-inclined pinsP. To fasten the fabric to be embroiderede-for example, a handkerchief-one corner of the same is hooked on the pins 1, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and placed over the corresponding two tubes K and drawn taut. Then the spur'M of' a presser-bar is passed through the upper part of the slot L of the corresponding tubes K, and said spurs areinser-ted into the notches II of thecorresponding plugs II, andthen the presser-bars are IOO .gradualy pressedinto the slots L and draw part of the fabric in with them. Thereby the I' fabric is drawn'` absolutely tant, es is necessary for embroidering, and at the seme time 'securely held in place. After the articles have been embroidered the presser-bars are removed, and the pieces of. fabric unhooked from the pins P and then removed. Instead of attaching the corner of a, piece of fabric to the pins P, any other part of the fabric can be engaged by said pins. Y
Having thus y described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl1.- In an embroidering-machine, the combinatioinwith the tambour-frame,of frames fiiting" into the tambour-frame and constructed l with top and bottom bars,'longitudinally-slotted tubes held to seid top and bottom bars,- presse'r-bnrs fitting in the slots of seidtnbes, and clips' secured to the upper bers midway between the slotted tubes and provided with pins, substantially as setforth.
2. In an embroiderng-inachine, the combination, with a tambour-frame, of frames {itting into the same and composed of A top sind bottom bers united bycross-p'ieceshort metal i el pieces-'secured to the bottom edges of the up- .fper bars, plugs projecting downward from y the endpnrts of scid nietei pieces .end proecosse nation, with a tambour-frame, of frames Aiitting in thersame and composed of top and bottom bars united by cross-pieces, metal pieces secured, to .the bottom edges of the npper bars of `said frame, notched plugs projecting downward from the ends of said metal their tower ends placed in apcrtures'of the betteln bars and having their upper ends fitted ou the plugs of said metal pieces, and presser-bersv fitting in the slots of the tubes, substantially as set forth.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my'naxne in presi ence of'two subscribing witnesses. p HENRY HOCHREUTENER. y
