Description

P. JOHNSON & 1). BURKHART$MEIER.
DRIP PROTECTOR FOR WASH BOILERS.
No. 461,834. Patented Oct. 27, 1891.
ilNirnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERIKE JOHNSON AND DANIEL BURKHARTSMEIER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DRIP-PROTECTOR FOR WASH-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,834, dated October 27, 1891.
Application filed January '7, 1891. Serial No. 376,971. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDERIKE JOHNSON and DANIEL BURKHARTSMEIER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Drip- Protector for ash-Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device for protecting the stove and floor from the water that drips from the clothes as they are lifted from the wash-boiler and deposited in a tub or other receptacle placed beside it.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of novelty that are particularly pointed out in the claim hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figures 1 and 2 are respectively an end and a side elevation of the improved protector in place upon a wash-boiler, the latter being shown resting upon a stove in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section of the protector on the line 0000, Fig. 2. Fig. dis an elevation of the rear side thereof.
The protector is formed of a sheet of metal A, having'at its upper margin a lip bent twice at right angles in the same direct-ion, so as to form a hook A for engaging the upper margin of the boiler B. At each of its sides is an upturned marginal flange A for a purpose that will appear presently. To its under side is hinged a prop C,consisting of a piece of wire of approximately V shape, having portions C with coincident axes which constitute journals and are embraced by metallic straps C soldered to the under side of the sheet A. The terminals of the wire are bent at right angles to the journals and constitute stops O for limiting the movement of the prop.
Vhen not in use the prop may be folded up,
so as to be out of the way.
The materials above mentioned are the best adapted for the construction of this device; but we desire to have it understood that our invention is not limited thereto, as a protector constructed of many other materials would be equally as effective.
Having thus described our invention, the following is what we claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A drip-protector for wash-boilers, consisting of the sheet A, having the side flanges A and the hook A at its upper end for engaging the margin of the boiler, in combination with the prop C, having portions C',with coincident axes, forming the journals of the prop, and the terminals C bent at an angle to the journals, for limiting the descent of the outer end of the prop, substan ially as set forth.
FREDERIKE JOHNSON. DANIEL BURKHARTSMEIER.
