ERNST KREBS, OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA.
GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 461,346, dated October 13, 1891. Application filed April2l, 1891. Serial No. 389,802. (No model.)
Y To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNST KREBS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at San Luis Obispo, in the county of San Luis Obispo and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a new and improved, highly-instructive, and interesting` game of lotto; and it consists, briefly, of a card or series of cards provided with pictures or sketches of historical events of the United States, and the year or date of the occurrence or happening thereof in close relation thereto, and also'a series of small cards, upon which are dates and designations corresponding to those of the said card or cards, substantially as hereinafter fullyset forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of one of the cards of my improved game. Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are opposite face views of two of the small cards.
My invention relatesto the game of lotto, and is a historical arrangement of that game, and the same renders the players perfectly familiar or conversant with all important events iu the history of the United States, and besides is rendered more interesting by the pictures or illustrations on the cards. In the complete game I preferably employ a series of about twenty cards, each card being provided with about fifteen different pictures or representations of historical events in spaced apart sections or blocks, the pictures of each card being different from those of the other cards.
In the drawings I have shown one of the cards A, upon which are three rows or series of pictures a, each row having live of such pictures. Beneath each picture of each event is the name and date thereof, the latter being preferably arranged in smaller blocks a.
In connection with the game I employ numerous small cards B, upon one side of each of which is a date and upon the other side the name of the eventhappening on that date. Each card B of course corresponds to some of the pictures or representations on the card A, and its relation to the latter is readily recognized by bot-h name and date.
The game is played substantially like the ordinary game of lottothat is, one person who acts as caller of the small cards B gives each player one, two, or three of the large cards A, and then proceeds to call out one by one the year and date on one of the small cards B. The player holding a card A, having an event corresponding to the card so called, covers such event with a small glass disk, as in the ordinary game. The game is continued until all the events have been covered, unless in the meantime one player has succeeded in covering all the dates of one of the series of rows with glass disks, in which event he becomes the winner. The game can also be played by the caller calling out the events instead of the dates on the small card B, and the player responds by announcing the date of such event.
Thus it is obvious that players readily become very familiar with important historical events and with the dates of the happening thereof, and at the same time the interest of the game is greatly increased by the artistic pictures or representations. The latter also serve to impress upon the minds of the players the particular incident'illustrative of each event.
I claim as my invention- A The herein-described improved gaine of lotto, composed of a series of cards, each of which is provided with spaces having pictures or representations of historical events and smaller spaces having the name and date of each of such events, and a series of small cards having data thereoncorresponding` with such events and year and date, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
