STLAS E. BAUDER, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO.
CURTAIN-POLE BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,939, dated October 13, 1891.
Application filed January 31, 1891. Serial No. 379,833. (No modeh) T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SILAS E. BAUDER, a citizen of the United States, residingat Sandusky, in the countyof Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Curtain- Pole Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brackets for curtain-poles, the object in view being to provide a cheap and simple bracket adapted to be applied to opposite sides of windows and to adjustably support curtain supporting poles, whereby said bracket, poles, and ourtains may be swung to one side away from the window for the purpose of ventilating the room, cleaning the window, wood-work, the.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a front elevation-of the upper portion of a window provided with bracket-supporting poles constructed in accordance with myinvention,
one of said brackets and poles being swung to one side. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the bracket and support, the two being arranged in line with each other.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In practice two bases or securing-plates, as 1, consisting of an oblong plate of metal or wood, are provided with screw-openings 2 near their ends or other convenient points, and through the same screws 3 are passed into the wood-work at opposite sides of the window-frame. The plates 1 are each provided with a pair of laterally-disposed lugs 4, each of which is provided with a reduced rear end 4:, entering and secured within an opening 5, formed in the plates l. near their up per and lower ends, said lugs having formed upon their inner sides countersunk bearings 5.
The bracket proper is triangular, or substantially so, in elevation, and consists of the vertical standard 6, which terminates at its ends in reduced tenons 7, fitting loosely in the sockets 5, a laterally-disposed arm 8, bored eccentrically, as at 9, extending from the standard, and by the location of its core having its under side the thickest; and, furthermore, in a diagonal brace 10, leading from the arm 8 to the lower end of the standard 0.
11 designates the curtainpoles, one of which is mounted within each of the arms 8, said poles preferably terminating at their inner ends in an enlarged head 12 and are adjusted in said arms, and thus maintained by means of set-screws 13, passed through the under or thicker sides of the arms.
The curtains are hung upon the rods by rings, hooks, or other means, and may be hung in position overthe windows by swinging the arms inwardly or toward each other, in which position the curtain-brackets are both ornamental and serviceable.
\Vhen it is desired to clean the windows,
the wood-work, and other surroundings, the
same may be accomplished without liability of injuring or soiling the curtains or other drapery, and requires simply a swinging of the two brackets outwardly away from the windows, whereby said windows are exposed and may be readily cleaned.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The combination, with the securing-plates adapted to be applied to opposite sides of a window-fra me and provided with perforations 5 and vertically-opposite pairs of lugs reduced at their rear ends, as at 4:, and secured within said openings and provided upon their i11- ner sides with countersunk bearings 5, of the standards 6, terminating at their ends in bearings entering and resting in said countersunk bearings and each provided witha right angularly-disposed bored arm or socket and a screw, and the short poles mounted in the sockets and having curtain-supporting rings, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto atfixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SILAS E. BAUDER.
