(No Model.)
H. R. ROBBINS. BEDSTEAD FASTENING.
No. 460,034. Patented Sept. 22, 1891.
WITNESSES IN VENTOI? JIM-Mm UNITED STATES PATENT OEFrcE.
HENRY R. ROBBINS, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
BEDSTEAD-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,034, dated September 22, 1891.
Application filed March 27, 1891.
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY R. ROBBlNS, of Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bedstead-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved bedstead-fastener; and it consists in certain featpres of construction and novel combinations, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional side view of my improvements, and Fig. 2 shows the section in detail.
My improved fastener includes the side-rail section A and the section B, which is attached to the head or foot board, and which section may, for convenience of reference, be termed the end section.
The section A is in use suitably secured to the side rail and is provided with a hook or hooks C, preferably two, as shown, arranged one above the other and facing upward, as shown.
The end section B is composed of the faceplate D and the longitndinally-movable latchplate E, arranged in rear of the plate D. The plate D has an opening or openings F for the hooks C, which maybe freelyinserted in said openings and as freely removed when the latch-plate is in unlocked position. This latch-plate is in the nature of an open frame and is supported and movable longitudinally in rear of the face-plate D. I provide the latch-plate with bearings G, which project in the locked position of the latch across the openingsF and adjust in the unlocked position of the latch above the said openings to release the hooks.
The normal position of the latch-plate is its down or latched position, in which case the bearings G project across the openings F. Now if the hooks on section A be forced into said openings they will, by their beveled or inclined front surfaces 0, lift the bearings G and pass under them, the bearings then dropping into the hooks and locking them in place. By lifting the latch-plate the hooks may be released. In the construction shown Serial No. 386,706. (No model.)
this is effected by providing the latchplate at or near its lower end with a handle H, which projects through a slot I in the faceplate, and may be moved up in said slot to set the latch plate to unlatched position. These bearings G are, by preference, rollers journaled to the latch-plate. As shown and preferred, the rollers are seated at their ends in notches J, formed in the side rails of the latch-plate, and said side rails are shown as provided on the inner edges of said side rails with short runner-like lugs K, which enable the latch-plate to move easily up and down. To hold the rolls from endwise movement, I provide the face-plate with inwardlyprojected flanges L L, which extend alongside the ends of the rollers, the face-plate thus serving to secure the bearings G to the latch-plate and at the same time permitting the said bearings to revolve freely.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. In a bedstead-fastener, an end section comprising a latch-plate having its side rails notched to receive the bearing-roll, the roll fitted at its ends in said bearings, and the faceplate fitted over the latch-plate and provided with inwardly-projected flanges arranged to project alongside the ends of the roll, whereby the face-plate may operate to secure the roll in place, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a bedstead-fastening, the end section herein described, composed of the latch-plate having a handle II and having its side rails provided in their front edges with notches for the bearing-roll and on their rear edges with runner-like lugs, the bearing-roll and the face-plate fitted over the latch-plate, and having an opening to receive the hook of the side rail section, and inwardly projected flanges which extend alongside the end of the roll, all substantially as set forth.
3. As a new and improved-article of manufacture, the bedstead fastening, substantially as herein described, consisting of the end section composed of the latch-plate having its side rails provided in their front edges with notches for the bearing-rolls, the rolls fitted at their opposite ends in the said notch-es, the face-plate fitted over the latchplate and having, openings to receive the hooks, and also provided With inwardly-projeeted flanges which extend alongside the ends of the rolls and serve to retain the same from endwise movement in their bearings,
and the side-rail section havinghooks,a11substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
v HENRY R. ROBBINS.
