Description

P. DODGE.
Joining and Fitting Corners of Soapstone Stoves. No. 45,982. V Patented Jany Q4, 1865.
as H 5 Invenio'r:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PORTER DODGE, OF PERKINSVILLE, VERMONT.
JOINING AND FITTING CORNERS OF SOAPSTONE STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,982, dated January 24, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PORTER DODGE, of Perkinsville, county of Windsor, and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Mode of Joining and Fitting the Corners of Soapstone Stoves and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference be ing had 'to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the ends of two soapstone slabs and the iron joint or corner. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section through the same. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the iron joint. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the end of one of the soapstone slabs.
To enable others skilled in theart to make and use my invention,I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the ends of the soapstone slabs. They are provided with grooves 11, into which the sides of the angular iron plate B are fitted, which thus holds them in a position, forming a right angle. This iron corner or angular plate B is secured to the bottom plate and top frame of the stove by means of tenons a, which extend into said parts, and thus the corner, as well as the soapstone slabs,
- are effectually secured to the stove.
0 represents a cap, which is secured to the outside of the iron corner by means of a screwbolt, 0?, or otherwise. Its edges are made to overlap the edges of the soapstone slabs for the purpose of protecting them and to make a neat fit. This cap may be made in any desired ornamental design of open iron work, and will greatly add to the ornamental appearance of the stove.
This method of making the corners of soap: stone stoves affords great advantages on account of the simplicity of construction and neatness and durability, and therefore materially facilitates the construction of said stove and reduces the cost thereof.
Having thus fully described the nature of my invention, what I claim herein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with the grooved soapstone slabs A, the iron or metal corner or angular plate B, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In combination with the grooved soapstone slabs A and angular plate B the cap 0, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
PORTER DODGE.
