SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 45l,68 3, dated August l1, 1891.
Application filed March 27, 1890' Serial No, 345.558. lilo niodehl To @Z w/Lom it may concern:
Beit known that l, FRANK P. UNGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hagerstown, in the county of v Vashington and State of lliaryland, have invented certain new and useful linprovenients in Lubricators; and l do hereby declare the\following to ne a4 full, clear, and exact description of the invention, 'such as will enable others skilled in the art te which it appertains to make and use the Same, reference being had 'to the accompanyingdrawingaandtolettersefreferenceniarled `thereon, which forni a part oi this specification.
My invention relales lo certain new and useful improvements in luhricators, the ob* ject being to provide a continuous-supply lubricator w' l1 means so that noiunal and predeterni ined level of the oil may be aiuto inatically maintained in a chamber through the tendency of the oil-level to lower, 'the invention being' adapted for use with fast-run ning machinery, as dynainos, where 'it de- Sirable to present a continuous dow of oil around the bearings.
The invention consists in providing a luhri- Gator with a supply-pipe having; a valve conn nected to a float maintained 1,. the lnbricator, so that a constant level of the lnln'icating;n fluid may be established, as wi-ll be hereina ter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claimsu 4 ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l is View showing the application or". my improved lubricator, and Fig. side view showing the Iloat in one poeition in full lines and in another in dotted lines.
in practice in carrying,` out my invention,
- when the same is applied to a dynamo or other ast-running machinery, l provide atanli, which is located above the machinery to belnln'icated,y and to said tank is connected a supply-pipe, as a, having depending branches, nponwhich are secured dischargenozzles l, having valves l). The nozzles are preferably connected to a jointed arm', so that when they are not in use they may 'ic swung up out of the way.
' a. refers to apipe which leads freni a tankl'ornied in the body el' the machin c or dynamo,
which carries away the oil used in lubricating the shaft thereof, and this pipe leads to a filter of suitable material, located in a tank'a?. A pump is provided, as shown, for elevating` the oil from the tank fr? to the supply-taint, and the siri'iply-tanlr may be connected. cyan overilow-pipe to the waste-tank. The pump is driven by any suitable means. By the arrangement hereinbelore des lribed a constant supply or circulation mi oil will be provided 'lhe lubrieal'or (l made up of an outer cae-- in g; and a central. l'eedpige D, which has a valve which can be raised and lowered, so as to regu.'r late the discharge from said pipe D, t'ale @imitated by a turn-button or fl. Upon the pipe D ie placed i if, suitable material, and to one of the ne connected a red E, the npper end ol' i. lch engageswith :in arm G, said arm bein attaa l l1( oli the nozt-,ie nioveinc i 't 'Lartn Y and falle. i i o- .e .lo ll is passed intoa ,correlation in the upper the lnlaicator, and may he held sen place oy suitable clamp. gllelow the lnbricator proper is located an ordinary drip-cup having a central opening; through which the oil passes.
ln practice the valve turning;l the steen lire; adjusted by l), rmich .z the desired supply olf oil, the oil is t inte the casing, se te re. a constant supply equal to what pas The valve will` be ses the hitachifieryD operated the cat non the oil, which will automatically li the properlevel in the lu? hricator and maintain it, as when the oil falls the float `will tall therewith and turn the valve Z) to increase the supply.
vHaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to :secure by lieti ters Patent, is-' f, l l
l. The combination, in alcontinuons-feed lubricator havin g a central feedpip'e, of aioat mounted thereon, and a rodfeonneeted to the neat and to an arm, so as to operate' a valve located in thesnpply-pipe, substantially as set forth.
