FRITZ MINK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIG NOR TO THE KEYSTONE WVATCH CASE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-BOW FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 456,901, dated July 28, 1891.
Application filed April 9, 1891. Serial No. 388,204. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ MINK, of the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in VVatch-Bow Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to watch-bow fasteners; and it consists of certain improvements which are fully set forth in the following specification, and are shown in the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof.
The object of my invention is to obtain a convenient, economical, and neat device for fastening the bow to the pendant of a watchcase with the usual freedom of swinging movement.
In carrying out my invention the ends of the bow are split and are inserted in apertures. Screws or pins are then inserted longitudinally through these ends, so as to force the split portions apart on the inside of the apertures, so as to enlarge the extremities of the bow, and thus prevent the ends being drawn through the apertures. The pins may be inserted either from the outside of the pendant or from the inside.
My invention is particularly adapted to the construction of bow and pendant known as the antique. By employing an outer shell or false pendant with apertures the ends of the bow may be fastened thereto, and this outer shell or false pendant may be subsequently attached to the pendant proper.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a watch-case and bow having an antique pendant shown in longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3is a similar view to Fig. 1, illustrating a slight modification of my invention; and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the same in the line 1 2 of Fig. 3.
In the drawings I have shown the invention as applied to an antique pendant and bow.
A is the pendant proper.
B is the bow, having its extremities 5 split.
C is the outer shell or false pendant adapted for attachment to the pendant proper and provided upon diametrically-opposite sides with apertures c c to receive the ends of the bow. The ends of the bow B are inserted in these apertures c c,with their split extremities b b projecting upon the interior.
D arescrews or pins, which are inserted through the ends of the bow longitudinally, as shown, spreading apart the members of the split extremities, so as to enlarge the ends upon the inside beyond the diameter of the apertures c c. In Fig. 1 these screws are shown inserted from the inside and tapered, so as to more readily spread apart the members of the split extremities, while in F1 2 the screws are shown inserted from the outside and without the taper.
I prefer the minor details of construction which are here shown; but they may be va ried, if desired, without departing from the principles of my invention.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the pendant proper, an outer shell or false pendant surrounding said pendant proper, provided upon diametrically-opposite sides with apertures, a bow having its ends inserted in said apertures and projecting upon the interior and having the extremities of its ends split, and pins or screws inserted longitudinally through said ends and forcing apart the members of the split extremities on the interior of said outer shell or false pendant.
2. A watch-bow fastener consisting of a pendant formed with apertures upon diametrically-opposite sides, a bow having its ends inserted in said apertures and having the extremities of its ends split, and screws or pins inserted longitudinally through said ends and forcing apart the members of the split extremities upon the interior.
3. The combination of the pendant proper, an outer shell or false pendant surrounding said pendant proper, provided upon diametrically-opposite sides with apertures, a bow having its ends inserted in said apertures and projecting upon the interior and having the extremities of its ends split, and tapering pins or screws inserted longitudinally through said ends from the GX'EI'BIl'lltlGS thereof and forcing apart the members of the split extremities on the interior of said outer shell or false pendant.
In testimony of which invention I have hereunto set my hand.
FRITZ MINK.
IVitnesses:
ERNEST HOWARD HUNTER, S. T. YEEKEs.
