To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ANsoN LEE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a Combined WaslrStand, Bureau, Writing- Desk, and Wardrobe 5 and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, ret'erence bein g had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in W lich- Figure 1 represents a transverse vertical section of this invention, taken in the plane indicated by the line y y, Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a longiti-idinal vertical section of the same, the line .t a, Fig. 3, indicating the plane ot' seetion. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section ot' the same, the line .e z, Fig. 2, indicating the plane of section.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
The obiect of this invention is to combine a wash-stand, a bureau, a writing-desk, and a wardrobe all in one piece ot furniture, thereby producing an article ot' the greatest convenience, particularly for people living in cities, where a saving otspace is a great desideratum.
The nature ot' my invention and its peculiar advantages will be readily understood from the following description:
A represents a case made of wood or any other suitable material, square or oblong, as may be desired. The interior of this case is divided by two vertical partitions, a b, in three compartments, B G D, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The compartment B is provided with a door, b, and it is intended to serve as a wardrobe, the height of the case being such that coats, diesses, pantaloons, or other wearing-apparel can be conveniently hung up therein on nails, hooks, or racks, secured on its top or sides, or bot-h, as maybe convenient. The middle compartment, U, is subdivided in two com partments, C G2, vby a horizontal partition, c, and that part below said partition forms the wash-stand, which is closed by two doors, c', as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Each ot' these doors has secured to its inner surface a bracket, d., with a hole to receive a wash-basin, and
when the doors are thrown open said basins can be used conveniently by two persons at the same time. If desired, a shelve may be applied to the interior of the wash-stand to receive combs, soap, or other articles requisite tor the toilet. The compartment G2 above the horizontalpartition c forms the Writingdesk. It is closed by a lid, c2, whichis hinged to a board, 03, sliding in and out under tle partition c, and it is divided in three (more or less) pi geonholes, c4, by suitable vertical partitions, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The pigeonholes may be closed, it' desired, by a separate lid, c5, and the slide c3 is provided with a projection on its inner edge to prevent its being drawn out any farther than desirable. (See Fig. 1.) then the lid c2 is turned down, it is held in a horizontal partition by a lip on its under edge. striking against the under surface ot' the slide e3, as shown in Fig. 1, and when the slide is drawn out it forms a con venient table for writing or other purposes. The compartment D is subdivided by a horizontal partit-ion, d2, iu two compartments, Dl D2, the upper one of which is intended to receive bedelothes, table clothes, and other large pieces used by housekeepers, and the lower compartment, D', is occupied by a series Ot' drawers, d3, intended to receive shirts, underclothes, drawers, and other small articles ot' wearing-apparel or for other purposes. A door, d, serves to close the compartment D, as shown in Fig. 3.
Itis obvious that this piece ot' furniture Inay be made plain and simple or in an ornamental style to s uit customers. In its simplest style its price will not exceed that ot' an ordinary bureau, and its convenience is so apparent that it requires no further explanation.
l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcntv A combined Wash-stand, bureau, writingdesk, and wardrobe, constructed as herein set forth, as a new article ot' manufacture.
ANSON LE E.
