Beit known that I, HEINRIKA BACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kilmanagh, county of Huron, and State of Michigan, administratrix of the estate of JOHN C. BACH, deceased, as set forth in the accompanying petition, declare that the said JOHN C. BACH invented a certain new and useful Improvement in aHammock-Chair; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, Which form a part of this specification.

The invention consists in the combinations of devices and appliances hereinafter set forth and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the chair in a reclining position. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, showing the chair in an upright position. Fig. et is a detail view of the pulleys H2 H3 and connecting-bar I2.

The' invention is as follows: A and A represent upright supporting-bars forming a part of a supporting-frame, said uprights united to bases B B', respectively, and to a cross-bar C at vthe top of the frame. The

. bases B B are constructed as shown, the extremities being connected by a brace-rod D, which may be provided with a suitable tightening device, as shown at d. The cross-bar C is provided toward eachextremity with1 cross-arms C' and C2, from Whichthe chair is supported, and from which cross-bar C bracerods E and E' extend downward and engage the respective bases B and B'. Another bracerod E2 connects each of said bases with the outer extremity of the cross-bar C. In this manner the frame-work forming the support for the hammock-chair is effectually strengthened and made firm.

The chair proper consists of a frame-work F, formed of arms f f, extending up the side of the back and jointedly connected with footpieccs f'f', as at f2. With the foot-piece is also connected an arm f3 on each side the chair jointedly engaged with additional arms The chair is supported upon cords H H',

united to the cross-arms C and C2, respectively, said cords at their lower ends being' provided with pulleys h 71.', over which is passed a cord H2, united atv its extremities to the arms f, and f4, as shown.

H3 denotes pulleys j ournaled upon the right and left hand of the chair, as upon a bar I2, engaged upon the armsftV Upon said pulleys are engaged cords K and K, extended over and about the pulleys, their extremities being engaged with the cross-arms C' and C2. Said pulleys are provided, preferably, with handles lo 7c', whereby the same may be readily operated by the occupant of the chair. In doing so it is evident that one end of the cords K K is shortened, while the other is lengthened, thereby imparting a swinging movement to the chair.

A canopy L is supported in any suitable manner over the chair, as by friction, the frame of the can opy being provided with eyelets, through which the cords K K are passed and upon which the canopy is held by friction.

The bar I2 is preferably bent down intermediate its ends, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to allow the fabric to settle and conform to the body of the occupant.

A cord M is provided, by means of which the chair may be retained in any desired position.

Vhat is hereby claimed isl. In a hammock-chair, the combination, with the supporting-frame, of a jointed chair, ropes H H', secured with their upper ends to said support and provided at their lower ends with pulley-ropes H2, attached with their extremities to the back of said chair and engaging with their inter/mediate portions the IOO intervening' pulleys, substantially as described.
