I prefer to cut a venting rattling of the door. seat or rabbet in the rear side of the door to Heretofore the wedge-shaped projection of receive the upper portion of the flange Z9, each door has been applied to the outer sursaid flange being attached to the door by face of the door and projects outside of said a suitable number of bolts c passing through 7o zo surface, thus requiring a like projection of the lower portion of the door or in any other the fixed ear or bracket on the body of the suitable Way. car, said bracket being thus made so promid represents a wedge-shaped projection senent that it is liable to be broken by contact curely connected to the flange 'h at or near with objects outside of the car, besides reone end thereof by bolts e or other suitable 75 25 quiring to he made quite bulky and heavy. means, the outer side of said projection being The present invention has for its object to beveled or inclined at one or both ends thereobviate the projection of the fixed ear or of, so that when the door is being moved bracket outside of the outer surface of the lengthwise the projection will come toabeardoor; and to this end it consists in the iming ony the fixed ear or bracketf, attached to 8c 3o proved construction hereinafter described, the side of the car, without an abrupt blower said construction involving a downwardlyshock. The projection d is of such width that projecting flange or rib at the lower edge of its outer surface isback from the plane of the the door,a wedge-shaped projection thereon, outer side of the door a, as shown in Fig. 2. the outer surface of which is inside of or set The ear or projection f is securely bolted to 85 u back from the plane of the outer side of the the body of the car below the door a, and its door, and an ear or bracket affixed to the car upper portion is offset from the side of the below the door and formed with its bearingcar sufficiently to bear upon the outer side of surface inside of the plane of .the outer surthe projection CZ and hold the door a firmly face of the door. against the side of the car when the door is 9o 4o In the accompanying drawings, forming a moved to such a position that the projection part of this specification, Figure 1 represents d bears against the ear. a side elevation of the lower portion of a The described location of the projection d sliding door and a portion -of the side of the back of the outer side of the door enables the car, said door and car being provided with ear or' bracket f to be formed so that it does 95 45 my improvements. Fig 2 represents a secnot project outside of the door, as shown in tion on line 2 2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 represents Fig-2. Hence the size of the ear or bracket a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 repreis considerably reduced as compared with one sents a top View of the flange and wedgewhich is formed to bear against the outer side shaped projection attached to the bottom of of the door. roo 5o the car-door. Fig. 5 represents an end View I prefer to form an L-shaped flange g on of the construction shown in Fig. 4C. one end of the projection d, said flange being door, as shown in Figs. 1,2, and 5.
Yformed to extend across the bottom ot' the door and upwardly at the outer side ol the The said ilange constitntesa weari n g-plate or protector for the lower corner of the door at the end thereof and is securely retained in place by one of the bolts c, which passes through the vertical portion of the flange, as shown in Fig. 2.
I claim- 1. A ca1'doo1havng a downwardly-projecting flange at its lower edge and a wedgeshaped projection at the outer side of said flange, the said projection and flange being set back from the plane of the outer surface of the door, as set forth.
2. A ear-door having adowmvardly-projecting flange at its lower edge and a wedgeshaped projection on the outer side of said` flange, said projection and flange being set l back from the plane of the outer surface of l the door, emnbinetflwith an ear or bracketai`- lixed to the body of the ear below the door and formed to cooperate with said projection in holding the door against the side of the car, as set forth.
3. The combination, with a oar-door, of the metallic flange Z1,inserted in a socket formed in the rear side of the door and projecting below the latter, and the projection d, attached to said flange and provided with an L-shaped Ila-nge extending across the lower edge of the door and upwardly at the outer side of the door, as set forth.
