SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,366, dated April 28, 1891.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, ALVIN M. BROWN and DANIEL S. KING, of Hamilton, Caldwell county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Com bined Hame-Olips and Tug-Loops, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

Our invention relates to an improvement in adjustable combined hame-clips and tugloops; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the lower portion of the hame, showing our invention in position. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, showing the position of the metallic hame strap with a staple and adjustable bracket and tug-loop in position. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the tug-loop, showing its peculiar construction.

The hame c has projecting therefrom a bracket formed of a single piece of metal and consisting of the vertical portion f and the horizontal portions f, the said vertical portion passing through ears 1), formed on one faceof the casting or block B, the opposite face of the casting being contiguous to the surface of the hame and being provided with recesses 11, the contour of the said recesses being more than half a circle, thus causing the entrances thereto to. be narrower than their main portion.

A tug-loop C is secured to the forward end of the traces d, the rear face of the forward end 0 of the loop being rounded, while the front face thereof is flattened, thus causing the said end of the tug to have two diameters, a larger and a smaller one, the former of which is vertical when the tug is in its normal position and is of such a size as to be greater than the entrances or mouths of the recesses b, but being smaller than the width of the body thereof,while the smaller diameter is less than the width of the entrances or months of the recesses b. It will thus be seen that the end 0 of the tug-loop may be inserted in any of the recesses 12, and for this purpose the tug-loop is first caused to assume a vertical position, its end 0' being on top, the smaller diameter of which will then correspond to the mouths of the recesses Z), (see Fig. 2,) in any of which the end 0' maybe inserted by a lateral movement thereof, after which the tug is raised to a horizontal positionfcausing the larger diameter of the end 0' thereof to register with the mouth of the recess in which it may be contained, thus looking it therein, and it will be evident that by a reverse operation of the tug it may be released from any recess and by the above-described operation be placed in any other, as the comfort of the animal may require.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is The combination, with a hame, of a bracket secured thereto, a block pivoted in the said bracket and having recesses?) therein, the entrances of which recesses are of less width than the body thereof, a tug-loop having its forward end when in a horizontal position of a less horizontal than vertical diameter, the vertical diameter thereof being greater than the width of the entrances to the notches b and its horizontal of less diameter than the width of the entrance to the said notches, as described.
