Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID E. BANGS, OF MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
ARTIFICIAL FUEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,924, dated April 21, 1891.
Application filed January 21, 1891. Serial No. 378,558. (No specimens.)
To all whom, it hwy concern.-
Be it known that 1, DAVID E. BANGS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Medford, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Fuel; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to certain improvements in artificial fuel, and more particularly to a composition of this character which will be especially adapted to kindling fires; and the invention consists in the composition of ingredients as hereinafter described.
In the manufacture of my fuel I first saturate ashes with petroleum or its products, and the mixture is then combined with sawdust, which serves to hold the mass together while being pressed into blocks, which is then done. These blocks, formed in any suitable shape,
are then coated with resin or its equivalent. This coating serves to prevent the escape of any gas during its handling or transportation.
It will be found that a mixture composed of these ingredients as above will form a fuel especially adapted for kindling fires, as it is easily ignited and burns with a strong heat, the ashes and the sawdust at the same time preventing too rapid combustion.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The artificial fuel composed of a mixture of ashes and sawdust saturated with petroleum and coated with resin or its equivalent, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID E. BANGS. \Vitnesses:
WM. F. GEUBB, O. A. KEITH.
